"he does what you tell him" Carroll talking about Geno and Goff in Waldron system - in respond to if Geno is a better fit in current system. After years of kissing up to Russ, it must be a breath of fresh air when you QB actually does what you tell him, lol, Hackett is finding out the hard way when his QB does not do what you tell him.

Man this sums it up so well. Yes RW wasted Pete's best years in the NFL.

Probably would have been a hall of fame coach if he had not been so blindly loyal to RW for too many years.

Now he needs to get and another Super Bowl to maybe make it in. (because the writers and voters don't like his style)

Like I screamed for years and years. Time of Possession. Time of Possession. Time of Possession.

Most of the time what you want is a drive down the field, picking up multiple first downs, and controlling the clock somewhat. Whether you do it running or passing is kind of irrelevent, and you want a good mix of both to keep the opposing defense off balance. 3 and outs and 65 yard quick strikes just tire out the defense to where at the end of the season they are gassed.

To be fair to Russell, I don't think Pete was putting him down in that comment. He was talking about the different styles of QBs and praising Geno more than anything.

Goff and Jimmy G were my go-to comparisons for Geno this off-season. All three guys had similar knocks in their predraft scouting report. And Geno is a better athlete and arm talent than both guys, so it seemed like a good bet that he could excel in a QB-friendly system.

It'll be interesting to see if teams can solve Geno like they did Goff in 2018. Goff didn't struggle until defenses disguised their coverages until the last second, and Goff struggled to process the changes and make reads in real time. But it doesn't look like that will be an issue for Geno because he has much more command of the offense before the snap and doesn't appear to have any issues reading the defense.

The OP hits on something that became more apparent and bothersome as the years wore on with Russ. He became un-coachable. Ironically during his first couple of years under Pete he ran the offense as designed and managed the game-plan sufficiently. It wasn’t perfect but he didn’t have to be due to the security of a robust running game and one of, if not thee best defenses of all time.

Geno on the other hand has seemingly mastered “Pete ball” in only a few starts and gets the ball out on time taking less sacks and making really good reads. He throws accurate dots all over the field utilizing the tight ends when needed. His efficiency has been scary good. There’s no need to draft a quarterback when we can stack the defense this offseason and win a chip with Geno Dots.

Love how you flip the script on this one, after all the times we've heard "Pete squandered Russ's best years..."

Once PC/JS paid Russell, that screwed Pete's "business model" of cheap QB and quality defensive players in abundance.

Thus fueling Schneider to try and get Mahomes or Allen.

I disagree. When Pete says he listens he’s really saying Russ wasn’t. I was a huge Russ fan but it’s so disappointing to hear this. When he’d say Go Hawks he was really saying Go Russ

That's what I've seen so far, too. There is some concern (reasonably), that defenses will 'figure out' Geno because they've got a month of tape on him now. But, as you point out, Geno has been diagnosing defenses pre-snap and even post-snap very well.

Is there really a 'look' that defenses have figured out to send at Geno that he's going to struggle with? I don't know. He's got an NFL record completion percentage to this point in the season, so I mean, he's completing passes on basically every type of coverage right now.

But I'm nowhere close to an NFL Defensive Coordinator, so we'll see.

Figuring Geno out isn't going to be easy, he uses the whole arsenal and takes what is there till the defense over compensates and then hits the player for a big play. He studied hard even with Wilson here and would help him prepare.

That and we cannot forget he has played under fire a lot so being able to have time and a team of weapons and protection is like a Pro Bowl game for him.

It's not really Geno they need to "figure out." It's Waldron's system that Geno is playing. And that looks like something at least out of the 21st Century for a change. There is a lot of misdirection and motion designed to confuse the D, coupled with an ability to execute plays from different looks and formations. While we may not have a solid WR3, we do have 3 TEs who can block and catch and RBs who can catch and run as well.

I've really been enjoying it so far and looking forward to new wrinkles. :)

Why does he need another one? Cowher is in with one undeserved super bowl. Carroll built arguably the best defense of all time and smashed the best offense of all time in the super bowl.

Agreed, Rams when they have the right bodies on the field are unstoppable, lesser player however make them look beatable, we have stud players that can play in the system. Lucky for that, so if we don't stop ourselves few can stop us or the Rams offense as well if we have the right personnel to play it.
