The neck injury that torpedoed the 2021 season for Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson will end his career.

Reported Tuesday that Carson has decided to retire due to the injury, per a source informed of the situation.

The decision comes after the running back failed his physical. The team will release him with a failed physical designation, which allows the RB to receive injury protection benefits.
The 27-year-old played in just four games last season before being sidelined by the injury.

Can he coach? Asking seriously…a young man having the rug pulled out from under him on his career maybe the Seahawks can keep him in the game in some capacity.

I felt like we will gain positive yardage every time Carson carried the ball, I felt like somehow he will move the pile or squeeze though for a few yards, no matter how stacked the box was. He and Penny could have been the best combo.

Carson was one of the gem from 7th round.

We have gotten tremendously lucky as football fans to have had the privilege of watching some great, great RBs.
Carson is one of those. Will always be.

Ran so much harder than his body would let him. To a fault, really.

For years we struggled with those 3rd and 1s, and 3rd and 2s, 3rd and shorts. I remember being so frustrated. Then Carson came and he would just punch right through a defense that knew he was coming.
The bummer was his unwillingness to go down. He just kept fighting for yards, for no reason. Refused to go out of bounds.

When we got him with a late round pick, I did a 'another RB'? like some other here. But he made me regret that. He would have been worth a day 1 pick. Stellar by almost any measure.

The last game I got to go to, he caught the game winning TD right in our corner. TNF vs the Rams. It was a bobbled catch that seemed to take forever to come down. Best of luck CC. Thanks for leaving it all on the field!

Not to be morbid but does anyone recall that actual play where he got his neck injury?

I don't remember him leaving the game due to injury, so I'm not sure what play it was. i just remember him playing week 4 vs the Niners and then missing week 5 (a short week IIRC) then going on injured reserve.

At least he will be a millionaire. Hopefully he has a healthy retirement.

I had a level 2 cadaver bone neck fusion there’s no way you can come back and play running back . The key to a quality life is a stable spine and wise move by Chris to retire
I like to think Carson will made a good coach for RBs, and I would love to see him on our sideline.

If Carson and Penny would to be healthy in the last 4 years, Russell Wilson could still be with the Hawks. 2019 would have ended differently if Carson stayed healthy.
