Why would the Browns pay any player to not play and take a 19M cap hit when they can get all or half that salary off their cap.

You're not making ant sense. Mayfield WILL be traded or released.
If the Browns release Mayfield, they still have his nearly $19M on their cap, and they still have to actually pay all that money to Mayfield. His contract is fully guaranteed for this season.

My wife's grandmother's friend is reporting that a deal is super-duper close! The sticking point seems to be a Rick Mirer autographed rookie card. The Browns refuse to take it as part of the trade.

The Brown need to eat half and throw in a 4th rounder to sweeten the deal

But if they release him, they'll have that additional spot on their roster.

Decisions, decisions...

Guys it's really happening this time, trust me. Inside sources said Baker visited Seattle and immediately fell in love with the homeless population. He's been begging for a trade and Haslem is about to do it just to get him to shut up. I instantly see us as SB faves with Baker dishing dimes to DK and Tyler

The franchise QB that they traded may not play, at least not for weeks if not months. Why would Browns release Baker?

DeShaun Watson's hearing concluded today. Now, the judge has to decide on a fair penalty. Then, there could be appeals. It makes sense for Browns to try and force something with Baker before the public knows Watson's suspension and they're even more at a disadvantage. The FO can't keep him after the Watson (trade) decision so keeping Baker in limbo only makes them look worse for longer. ...but they really have very few, very bad options. Text seems like a weak 2nd attempt by Browns FO to leak an imminent development so interested parties have some manufactured urgency....again. I'm actually getting kind of interested to see if/how bad JS can fleece them. Can he get Baker, a 5th and 1/2 his salary? ...a 4th?

The Cleveland media(Dave Bacon, Garrett Bush, Mary Kay Cabot) all said, in June, that Baker won't play again for the Browns, I guess because the relationship is damaged beyond repair.
Other media seem to love these soap opera relationships. so maybe the networks will be able to take control, for higher ratings...and more insurance sales from Baker's commercials.

Anyone ever notice how the media tries to spin trades,fa signings and pickups?
You see They Should do or they could use among others..
These are people who know nothing more than us..I mean I saw one say Michael
Bumpus was a Seahawk legend which for me kind of says it all with these media
today.
This Baker stuff is nothing more than media garbage.

What they’re doing is creating media content. July, the beginning of August is a wasteland of nothing to talk about in sports.

I think they're waiting to see how long Watson is suspended for, if he's even suspended. They'll be looking to get a QB in return if he is.

Ryan to me is like any of the other still good but not great QB's that were available this past off season, they'd definitely help us win more games then Geno or Lock.

But 7 or maybe 8 wins over 4-5 wins? I'd rather go younger like Mayfield or see what Lock has to offer.

Besides, Ryan showed no interest whatsoever in coming to Seattle, so it was and still is a moot discussion. He wasn't coming here to begin with, even he knew Indy was a much better chance for him to get back to the playoffs.

He is a former MVP to be fair, and even more of an iron man than Russ, missing just 2 games his entire career - in 2009!

I'm not sure he's better than Wilson was despite those accolades, but in any case I agree a move for a 37 year old is an all in chip when you think that's the final piece, and we're better off going young - we have a package of picks next year that we can use to move up to grab a top QB if we do think that's the final missing piece in any case

Nah, they signed Jacoby Bressett for that. They’re not going to do anything with Baker until well into training camp.

Bumpus was in the league for all of one year (2008, which was 14 years ago).

He played in 4 games, was targeted only 8 times, with 5 receptions, one for a TD.

Talk about milking the cow dry. LOL
