You're in your delusional optimism Spring of being a football fan.

Spring: Delusional optimism everyone on my team's really good no matter what people say.
Summer: Idk, I'm not liking how these pre-season games are going.
Fall: Oh man, I think we suck.
Winter: Yep, we suck.
I dislike how accurate this is...How dare you.

Well if the upside is Case Keenum, who else is excited?

And Blake is a not a success story, he is an example of a failure - even by the Jags, who have low standards (though not as low as Carroll-pumpers).

It isn't Lock's fault he is mediocre to average. But expecting anything exceptional from him is a bit much.

My concern isn't being exceptional. It is being a bottom half team but near the top of that half...just enough to not improve but allow people to make excuses.

But while I recognize the OP is not serious, that this was a sarcastic post, I am betting some people will believe the take and actually think taking a similar viewpoint is valid optimism.

We do love ourselves those 'start slow' players.

Remember Britt? All kinds of mistakes for a while, but eventually turned out to be a solid center. The problem was the 3 years of struggle/mistakes and when he finally got good we let him go.

Remember that converted TE we turned into an OL?

What about the DE we give years of chances to?

How about whatshisname from TCU?

The problem is you end up investing time/energy/and wins to try to mold that player into a serviceable option - then you lose them. Those are called farm teams.

Lock could be a 'slow start' QB. But those are usually raw guys we mold, and often it works (over time). The problem is that Lock folds under pressure. That is a trait not a training issue. You don't 'coach up' mental toughness.

We are stuck with the guy. We will see if he is serviceable. But we are in an NFL where great QBs are everything, so that is a problem. It isn't as if Carroll is a good enough coach to overcome that, and I doubt he is even in the top half of coaches in the league right now (in terms of competence/ability - not something he did a decade ago)

Can Carroll outcoach the opponent or put an effective game plan in place, and execute it with our existing personnel? Because he struggled at this for the past 5 years. Having a mediocre QB will exacerbate this problem.

At first I was under the impression that there is no chance of winning with the guy and the Hawks should do everything they could to get another QB. But with the steadfast faith Carroll has shown in him, I now believe we have a chance to win.

Carrolls been fooling fans for years now

But seriously, after trading away Wilson, what were the options? The draft didn't have any obvious NFL ready QBs, Free agents are all flawed to a degree. Mayfield may be the best out there, but he comes with a high price tag and some rumored ego/accountability issues.
The 'Hawks aquired Lock in "the trade" and have Geno so why not roll with Drew & Geno and see what they can do?
It's a better option that the stupid Drew Breeze rumors, or a reclamation project with Kaperdoodle or RGIII. ( NFL Network was suggesting we kick the tires on RGIII )

It is what it is.I don't think he is a top QB by any means, but with that being said somewhat better than people give him credit for. We shall see how it goes.

No thread on Geno Smith? He's the starter as of this sentence. I'm betting he starts week 1. Point your sarcasm there.

Lock will be the starter week 1, mark my words. With lock you have a younger guy with a higher ceiling. We know Genos cap. Gotta give luck a second chance

Getting behind Lock makes sense. He is all we got. We are stuck with him either way.

I am not anti-Lock. Just think he is a most likely a backup or lower tier QB. My concern is not that he will be terrible (which would paradoxically be good for us) but that he might be OK but not good enough to ever be a top third QB.

Getting behind Geno however? Makes no sense. I can see if the guy was some kind of good guy that everyone liked, or was just a great human being. But that doesn't seem true does it?

Everything Geno is 'famous' for points to him being not just a garbage QB but a garbage human being. (Garbage human being is a bit strong, but maybe not) So not sure what the weird obsession with wanting to support him comes from.

I liked him even when he was in college. My take is he works better in a system designed to take the ball out of his hands somewhat with a run heavy system and good, designed play action to DK and the tight ends over the middle. He throws a nice deep ball and his misses are high as opposed to in the dirt which I like due to our sizes at tight end and DK.

Ok, in all seriousness, I wish we could all get on board with tanking this year. We should want our QBs to struggle so we can get a top QB in the 2023 draft. That should be the goal. Being an average team does nothing for long term success. We need to stink in 2022!

A top QB in next year's draft is no guarantee, and depending on what we have in Lock, may not matter anyway.

Nothing is guanteed. But it would give them the best course of action going forward.

Hey, if Lock somehow turns it around and balls out in this system, awesome. Go for it. But if he's turning the ball over and playing like he did for stretches in Denver, then they need a plan going forward, which should be to focus on Bryce Young or CJ Stroud

Suck for Luck 2023 version? Hahaha! That was supposed to be a sure-fire path to SB dynasty domination according to practically everybody. Worked out well, I mean just look at all the AFCCGs and SBs Indy won by Sucking for Luck. Shit, he wasn't even the 2nd or 3rd best QB in that draft. Never forget, the draft is such a sure-fire way to get better that the Seahawks were lucky to get consensus best-linebacker-of-the-draft Curry back when. Totally made our 'Hawks the best D in NFL history, no?

GTFO with talk of tanking for draft position. That's the talk of losers.

Again, the Seahawks should have a plan of action going forward. I would much rather take the risk and have one of these kids work out, than hovering around .500 and going nowhere.

Except, It isn't just the 1st round. Tanking gets you early picks in the other rounds too. You get more of the guys you want.
Whether you get the right guys is on your scouting group - but then isn't that one of the few things that Carroll is supposed to still not suck at now?
