Tell us about this sample size.
Three years of underwhelming QB play. Blame it on the coaches all you want, but the end result is he was a bad QB. Coaches can also straight up ruin players for good. You're going to come back with the "...but he only played a season and a half of snaps!".

That is a very poor argument. The guy has been in NFL camps and practices, running drills for three years, competing with other QB's. He's also had three, going on four offseasons. This is where the game is refined and nagging issues in mechanics, footwork and fine tuning the offense is done. He's shown little progress in that time.

Now, this video is cool and all, but we have to remember -- it's from Shane Waldron, the Seahawks OC. Of course he's going to hype up his signal caller. There is a vested interest in doing so. Perhaps it's a sneak peak in how he plans on using him.

Let us be real here, Lock is among one of the worst starting QB's in the NFL. We're scraping the bottom here, he is our tank commander.

In a lofty place tanglin' with Satan over history.
They are already at work on putting together the 2022 offense .............

........................... looks like the makings of a nice overhand throw.
I caught hell from some of the jokers on here for posting Russell's latest Pro Bowl skills challenge where he went off. So hopefully you are being sarcastic.

😂😂you’re talking out of your ass. Just cause you can’t dispute it doesn’t make it poor.
Lock played great in his rookie year 2019 considering he missed nearly 3/4 of season on IR.
Also, there was no offseason mini camps, training camps or preseason in 2020 due to Covid when Lock had to learn a new system.

What will your excuse be for Lock when he sucks here? Different system? Bad offensive line? Poor weapons? This guy has had every excuse under the sun thrown at his poor play. I know what I'm talking about when I say he is not a good QB. You're a really doing a really bad John63 impersonation right now.

I will say bummer it didn't work out, but won't write him off or this Waldron offense working well for him yet when he hasn't played.

Nobody is saying he will be great, but we are rooting for him to turn it around.

Seeing a screen pass, seam routes and check downs again in this offense could be refreshing.

We will see.

I don’t need any excuses. I’ve made no claims either way with Lock. Only that there’s not enough to determine what he is.

I want to believe in the good stuff Waldron showed, I really do, but my mind keeps telling me there's quite the package of clips you could probably put together of weaknesses in his game too

Nice film session. According to this, Lock doesn't necessarily fold under pressure, but instead is able to stand tall in the pocket and make the strike down field.

Also thought it was interesting that he was able to beat two split safeties by hitting the TE Fant on the seam route... something we're not used to seeing.

This film is encouraging. Maybe he's not totally terrible as some are making him out to be.

"This film is encouraging. Maybe he's not totally terrible as some are making him out to be."

hoxrox: be careful my friend or the chorus of doomsayers and Lock detractors will be all over you like white on rice. I doubt he's totally terrible and just could be surprisingly better than his detractors make him out to be. The answer to this will be known early this season when the bullets fly for real.

Last season the team had a tier 1 QB with a $36 mil/yr. cap number and still finished last in the division and 10th worst in the NFL. Are we going to be as bad this season with Lock under C? We really don't know the answer to that question yet many are writing Lock off along with the team that has undergone some very major changes on both sides of the ball. If there is a team that has cause to be considered a sleeper or potentially seriously underrated the Hawks are that team, Lock or not.

Lock is what we got. You cannot complain he isn't Steve Young or Mahomes. We never had a chance to get Steve Young or Mahomes.

The frustration is more a symptom of the realization that in this league you win with exceptional QBs and we don't have that.

QBs are worth it. This is why Darnold went #3 overall.

Because the importance of having a great QB is so pivotal and because there are so many unknowns, the potential is worth it.

Now Darnold isn't worth much. We pretty much know his potential. It isn't 'great QB' territory.

Same with Lock. We know enough about him to be able to reasonably project his worth - and it is underwhelming.

But if you don't spend the draft capital to get a great QB, then you probably have no business expecting it. Nobody should expect Lock to be anywhere near that because he never really projected that way.

We will see what happens next year. Even spending the draft capital is no guarantee. Baker Mayfield was a high draft pick, Darnold was #3 overall. It didn't produce much.

You not only need the draft slot to pick the right QB, but you better get lucky. Few have nailed down how to ID exceptional QBs vs the rest of the alternatives/field yet.

But we do know how to notice when someone is out of the running for a chance to be exceptional, and 3 years in is probably past that line.

Team chemistry can go a long way to helping a QB reach his full potential. It will be interesting to see how well he meshes with the rest of our squad and how well they embrace him. I have no idea what the situation was for him in Denver, but whatever it was didn't work out all that well. I think that is part of the reason for such a strong youth movement in our roster building. It's something of a fresh start for a lot of our guys and those guys will tend to bond as a strong unit because they're all in the same boat. We know Lock has good physical tools. He always has had good physical tools. it's a matter of how well he can adjust to the mental demands that will determine the trajectory of his career in Seattle. That, and the quality of the talent pool surrounding him here.
As it stands now I don't know how to grade our O Line. I feel confident that if they can stay healthy we'll have a solid ground game. He couldn't aske for a better crew of receivers. Our D looks like it could be pretty good. Our STs are always pretty good. I'd say Lock has a pretty decent chance to prove himself in Seattle. I can't wait to see how the QB competition is handled during the pre-season games.

That’s the problem, you don’t know enough about Lock to project his worth.

I must confess that I advocated for Wilson to call his own plays back in the days. Little did I know that some of those three and outs were the results of calling his own plays.

Lock might have better WR corp and better RBs here, and he brought his own TE 😂. The OL is questionable, new bookends and new center.

If our running game lives up to the billing and Waldron designs plays to complement Locks strength. Our offense just might be serviceable.

We will revisit this thread when it is clear that Lock is a slightly below-average starter. Maybe a little bit worse.

The guy has 3 years in the league. We know exactly what we have.

You could barely trade him for Teddy Bridgewater right now, and Teddy was one of the best cases of 'well maybe he will be good somewhere else' you can find.

It will be funny to see how this thread ages.
