Gambling on a QB this draft

Well that's certainly been the pat answer Pete and John give us after they draft a player that wasn't suppose to go until later rounds with a higher pick.

All drafted higher than projected cause they were "our kind of guy."

That's a pretty low standard for success. Zero of those players signed that second deal with us except for Penny's recent one-year deal. We didn't even bother to exercise a fifth-year option on any of the first rounders you mentioned.

If he would've said Prosise, C-Mike or Joey Hunt I would've agreed. Collier can still prove effective in this new system

I have my doubts about DLock being any kind of long-term solution at QB.

If this 2022's QBs aren't fairly sure things, then it's hard to justify using any pick in what I've heard over and over is a deep draft at several important positions. I'd rather use 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks to strengthen weak areas and provide some depth at others.

I'm with you all who say just roll ("rock" on, toffee) with Lock this year and level up on QB later.

I 100% agree with this, Ad Hawk. We are not contenders so we don't need to rush out and make yet another blockbuster QB trade and we surely don't need to reach on a QB. We absolutely cannot afford to screw this up. I won't go too much into what I want to see happen here because it involves yet another trade that Pete swears he will not consider (which means he's considering it) but yeah...let's get us an LT and let's add to the D this year.

Hopefully the trade I hint at above will happen and if it does, we should turn those picks into a couple 1sts next year to go with the probably nice 1sts we'll already own. I personally want Bryce Young (as of now) but there are probably several right QB answers in next year's draft. Not so much in this one. If this is done right, it's plausible we can have our pick of the bunch.

Edited due to furthered education: For some reason I thought Young was 6'1" . I now learn he is 5'11"...which means he could be 5' 10". He's very dynamic and probably the best QB in next year's class... but I'm now no longer all in on him. We'll see.

I'm perfectly content to sit where we're at and take the BPA with our first 3 picks. If Ridder were to fall to us at #40, I could be talked into taking a gamble on him, but I don't want to burn any draft capital moving up to get him or any other QB in this class.

I would like to see Pete & John step back from their 'dilute & reach' trade down style and find some real talent for the offensive line and defense. IMHO, they haven't utilized their draft capital very well in the last several years and this draft should be about team building. It would serve them better to wait for the 23' class of QB's. Of course though, Having said that... they probably will draft a QB, RB & WR with their first three picks.

I don't think QB is a priority for this team tbh. Whoever we roll out is going to be compared (unfavorably) to Russell and that's an extra burden on a presumed rookie that's going to have a tough learning curve already. Better to run with Lock -- who has the talent of a 2022 1st rounder -- and fans' low expectations for him. If he can't make the jump, he'll be the baseline for our 2023 draft pick/FA.

For the post Russell Wilson era, I think they go back to square one. Whatever alleged tension that might have developed between player and staff over the last couple of years is now gone.

Both the quarterback coach and offensive coordinator should have a more noticeable influence over what transpires on the field for 2022. Looking beyond Geno Smith, they'll settle on a developmental fit. That developmental prospect will not suffer from any urgent do or die pressure ..... to start right away.

I see people beating the "PCJS can't draft" drum again. Please keep in mind that we have been extremely unlucky with every top pick except Okung and Brooks getting injured before week 1.

Hard to build a team when your stud athletes keep starting their careers in rehab. Instead of calling for PCJS' heads, you should be after their strength and conditioning coaches...
