Tonight's game, 31 passes and 25 runs, the Bills played balanced balls. Averaging 4.8 yards per run didn't hurt either. When it comes to arm strength, Allen is in his own league.

I think Pete himself is getting fed up with the perception that he doesn't want a kickass qb to ball out at the position. He was asked about it recently and said flat out if the guy can play and protects the ball, he can do whatever he wants.

Contrary to popular belief, guys like Rodgers lean on the running game quite a bit, and don't mind it... actually prefer it. But if they have to, they can sit in the pocket and pick defenses apart. Play by play, over and over. And when they want to, they can push the ball wherever it needs to go.

Russ's game is either manager behind a defense and running game, or he's making sh't up running around , extending plays to beat coverages. He's not adept at beating defenses with his ability to diagnose and react.

If Allen were here, we'd be balling just the same. Nobody stopped Russ in 2020 from going a full 16 games throwing the lights out but Russ and his inability to beat defenses. No different than 2021.

Based on the past 5-7 years, it seems that an Allen under Carroll would be much much less effective. Much lower risk, a lot less throws. More of the throws on 3rd downs when the run game cannot move us the first few downs.

We surely would have been better the past 5 years, but due to our tendency to squander cap space on nobodies, not sure we would be as good as it would seem on first glance.

I was at that game where Dishman ran it back, and Reich (who I had never heard of at the time) came in for Kelly to win the game in the 2nd half. It was pretty amazing, even from the nosebleeds. Buffalo deserves a winner. That is a great football city (though an ugly city). I am happy for them.
Used to love that team, with Cornelius Bennet, Talley, Bruce Smith, and Jim Kelly was incredible to watch*. Never was a fan of Thurman Thomas but realize in hindsight that him looking for his helmet on the sidelines was probably the sign of a concussion. Thomas was a great RB though if it wasn't the SB.

Did you not watch the game last night? 90% of Allen's throws were under 5-6 yards, he absolutely carved up the Ram's soft underneath zone defense. THEN he took a couple shots downfield in the 2nd half with great success.

You guys talk about a run heavy team like it's a bad thing. Go through the run/pass percentages of teams of the past 10 years and look at who's at the top, most are deep playoff teams.

And specifically look at what year's the Hawks were #1 in run heavy offense, SB and Championship years.

Balance is important, running the ball effectively is important, especially in the modern zone defenses that most teams employ to keep explosive plays at a minimum.

Allen would have done just fine here, he's a tremendous talent and would have fit into Pete's schemes just fine, just as he has in Buffalo with a comparable HC and coordinator who also understand these philosophical tenants above.
