Twas the night before Draftmas, and all across the net,
The draft nerds were stressing, full of excitement and fret,
All their mock drafts posted, wanting to share,
In hopes that some general manager, would actually care.

They lay wide-eyed, trying to sleep in their beds,
While visions of Kiper and McShay, dance in their heads,
With some in their jersey, and some in their draft day cap,
Had all been trying, to at least get a nap.

When on the Iphone, there arose such a clatter,
They reached for their phones, to see what was the chatter,
On to Dot Net they flew like a flash,
Username “TheHawkfan” Password KamBamSmash.

The green and the blue, that familiar glow,
The talons, the eye, for those in the know,
Click to the Draft chat and what should appear,
But eight new mocks, seem so many this year.

The mocks just kept coming, so many, so quick,
I had to know who each one had us taking, with the 5th pick,
A trade with the Eagles? The Cardinals? How lame,
They grinned and they grimaced, as they read each by name.

Now Anderson, now Wilson and of course there was Carter,
This kid might be a great one, but he has to live smarter,
To the top of the draft, to the top of the list,
They best get this one right, or the fans will be pissed.

So up to the stage, each athlete will fly,
In all those flashy suits, trying hard not to cry.
And of course all the players who will give so many thanks,
Will make that walk on the stage, and then to their banks.

And soon will come Roger, he is kind of aloof,
But for just this day, even he will act like a goof,
He will be strutting, with his contract newly signed,
Even though half the fanbase, wish he resigned.

He will say the league is perfect, so wondrous, so pure,
Then before he stops talking, he will get booed for sure,
The players will hug him, and maybe rub his head,
But three years from now, they will all want him dead.

But back to the players, the ones that matter,
They are the sugar, that gets the league fatter,
They will get the money, and all the hotties,
But they will really give up, so much of their bodies.

So remember why we care, remember why we watch,
Let’s handle this with class, and turn it up a notch,
The pick you may love, the pick you may hate,
But it has shown for years, it is wise to just wait.

They said it was over, when the Icon left town,
A lot of folks here, were so sure we were down,
Pete’s faith in Geno, was about to pay off,
As the team overachieved, and returned to the playoff.

So don’t wait for the worst, or for the hammer to fall,
Just stiffen your spine, and say F them all,
Because we are coming back, this draft will us strengthen,
Seattle’s run of success, is destined to lengthen.

So the mocks will be over, no more of the crap,
We’ll get our big new present, so fun to unwrap,
So let’s all exclaim as we open the box,
Merry Draftmas to all, and to all GO HAWKS!!!!!

I normally don't like poems. Like, at all. But that got me started laughing, and I enjoyed it all thoroughly. Nicely done!

I HATE the draft. I like the result and the picks, but the event sucks! Can't wait till it's over!

Really?

I love the draft, one of the most fun well produced non-game sports events of the year. The NFL does it right, makes it a party.

I think you have to be a big fan of the college game and up on it to really love the draft. I hate how the pundits go on and on about this guy or that. Hours of waiting and nonsense talk, when all I care about is good players. I have very little interest in college sports, other than who we draft, so maybe that's a big part of it.

Plus so many teams I don't care about, and of course pundits have to mandatorily make sure that 7-10 teams get 80% of the coverage, and regardless of their level of talent, Dallas is ALWAYS on that list...

Nice "Twas the night before draftmas" rendition/variation. I'm just a little leary because Pete & John get a little sideways sometimes and once when I was a kid I got a snow shovel for Christmas. I guess we'll see, won't be long now.

I do love college football, but I'm nowhere near up on the large majority of the prospects being drafted beyond the surface information we talk about here.

I'm just talking about the hype and spectacle of it all. Like I said, the NFL has done a brilliant job of taking something that was mundane and not even televised until a couple decades ago........and turned it into a full blown party.
