I'd be first in line to buy his jersey. Make it happen PC/JS

Suh would give us an immediate interior pass rush which we desperately needed this year after losing Clinton McDonald. Suh is the best 3 tech in football and will be for a long time. This would be huge

Say it takes 15 million (assumes Oakland offers 18m)

Guys we'd lose:

Mebane 5.7 million
McDaniel 3.6 million
Carpenter (expected 3 million)
Zach Miller 3 million

That's 15.3m there. Figures taken from Davis Hsu's cap 2015 breakdown.

This still allows for:

Extending Wilson
Extending Sweezy
Extending Wagner
Resigning Kearse
Resigning Moeaki
Expected sign of UFA DT (2m)

It's not as far fetched as one might assume. It would require drafting replacements for Mebane, Carpenter and Miller. One could also not sign a UFA DT (since Suh would be part of that), and keep Miller and find 1m elsewhere (perhaps lose Kearse).

Thing is, at #31, we should easily be able to replace Carpenter. There will be great day one starter OG talent available at that point. Additionally, at #62, we'll be in a great position to draft a run stuffer specialist to replace Mebane. This kind of move really isn't as far fetched as we might think it

Sounds like a sure-fire way to totally neglect the offense -- all for a flashy new toy for the already #1 ranked defense in the league.

If there is an impact player to be had on offense that would be as equally valuable -- I'd consider that too. Particularly if they fit the team.

And I believe you're underselling the impact. You're neglecting the offense (maybe) in order to elevate a generational defense into possibly the best unit ever assembled. This isn't merely a shiny toy. You're talking about adding the premiere interior 3 tech in -- well probably since Sapp. Suh is a difference maker. In every way Thomas and Sherman are. I don't see any Thomas or Sherman type UFAs out there on offense.

How about R Cobb, Julius or D. Thomas, or Dez. That's a pretty good list of offensive difference makers. Dez will get tagged if they can't reach a deal, but the others may not.

I've come to the conclusion that me wanting to go after Suh would 100% depend on if Marshawn stays.

The defense already garners something like 65% of our overall payroll. Signing Suh would push that to almost 70%, and that's with retaining Lynch and Russell's low 1st year cap number.

Obviously this is a defense first team, but IMO 70% of payroll dedicated to the defense is sorely neglecting the offense, ESPECIALLY if Lynch leaves.

But if Lynch leaves Pete and John need to drastically start committing more payroll to the offensive side of the ball, and that means more than likely passing on Suh.

That is a great list.

How many of those do you think will be willing to come to WR/HOF purgatory? Do you think any of those will be satisfied with anywhere between 0 and 5 targets a game?

It's been put out there before and I think it's real. Getting receiving talent to come here is going to be very difficult. We will pay top dollar and really probably have to outbid every other suitor by a wide margin.

^ agreed. WR's will have to come through draft or players not signed elsewhere. Example - we should have gone after Cotchery as a red zone target.

Defenders will come in FA market like Bennet and Avril because of the reputation the Seahawks currently have.

That means more money in defense but not necessarily more talent

I would love to see Suh on this D. We sure could have used him vs Rodgers and Brady. Our DL would instantly be in consideration for best in the league.

There are always ways to make these things happen. We have a smart front office, and if both sides are interested, there's a good chance it'll get done.

I don't care what the "model" has been. Most models don't account for studly generational type players. If you can get Suh, get him. He's too good to pass up over philosophical differences.

Suh's already a freak. Imagine him after he'd been indoctrinated to "compete every day" and the gusto of Earl Thomas.

This was in the Detroit paper on how the Lions (or any team) could structure a market deal for Suh.

http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/20 ... ct_fo.html

The bottom line cap numbers

2015 - 8 M
2016 - 18 M
2017 - 20 M
2018 - 18 M
2019 - 19 M
2020 - 18 M

By guaranteeing base salaries (the method JS and many others do now), the signing bonus is lower.

Not saying the Hawks would do this or not but note that right now 2016 has 77M committed dollars with a cap expected around 160 M.

unless he gives a huge discount to try and win a SB this is not going to happen. Unless he took a 1 year deal and we didn't extend anyone...A pipe dream.

Well, if they can figure out how to sign Suh and still take care of Wilson, Lynch and Wagner, plus maybe Maxwell, some WR help and KR help, I'd be thrilled. I just can't imagine that all of that is remotely possible.

I'm concerned that the Seahawks can take care of all their roster needs even in the absence of a discussion about Suh.

However, who knows? If there is true interest from Suh maybe the salary cap wizards will figure something out.

I hear stuff like this every year, and it seems like hardly anyone loses out on a player because they couldn't match the money. I remember how the Redskins were in "cap hell" every offseason and still signed more guys to huge contracts (not that they're a model of how a franchise should be run, but I think there's a good lesson there nonetheless). There are always ways around it if your front office guys know their stuff.

Getting Suh improves your offense immediately. Offense, you say? Field position. Shorter field off 3 and outs, TO, etc. would result in more scoring, IMO.

Have we signed him yet?

He can't go anywhere until the 2nd week of March.

I was being sarcastic.

I thought you might be, but I didn't want to make a sarcastic response in case you were serious. You never know sometimes on here.
