Yes, agreed.

Niners of old would have lost 31-10, but this new team made it at least interesting. So that's nice.

And schematically we matched up well against Carolina's offense, but when you lack a real pass rush and can't put up a ton of points, Newton and those WRs will eventually get you.

Gotta get Lynch back and get another 3-4 OLB edge rusher of similar level at least.

Niners with old Aldon Smith probably could have won this game.

Yes agreed BoX. We also need better play from Gabbert. He can not miss passes like that.

The 49ers are a 7-9, 8-8 team at best. Making a blow out interesting in the fourth quarter doesn't make it less of a blow out. They can beat the bad teams, but the good teams are on another level.

Gabbert is not the answer. He's inaccurate and has no balls. They need a new Qb. The 49ers need an elite WR too.

On defense, they need a real pass rusher on the outside, and Aaron "only six sacks last year" Lynch ISN'T that guy. At MLB they need an uograde and in the secondary they need to replace three of the four (possibly moving Ward to safety in place of the washed up Bethea).

When thise things happen, THEN the 49ers will be a playoff team.
