That really hurts this D. Now sort of the "legion of excuse me"?

Wow, next year just got a lot longer and less fun already most likely.

This one hurts out of all the other losses. Love Mebane- and wish he would retire as a hawk.

Oh well. Congrats to him and wish him well until he plays the hawks

He appeared to take a step back last year, so it seems to be time to move on. Guys like Mebane, Bryant, Clemons, etc. will never be forgotten.

Rubin was already playing some NT last year. Jordan Hill will need to step up. The team will need to find some depth at this position group.

Stopping the run next year might be problematic. Not gonna trip out until I see how we are going respond to this. Hopefully they can fill Mebane's shoes. He really was a huge part of the defense.

He was a solid player, I think the Hurt is his leadership.

Ya but it's not like the Hawks didn't try to retain him. I think it's stating an obvious that doesn't need to be there.

 I wanted to keep Mebane, he is one of my favorites (truth be told I love most of the players on defense). I will miss him, but wish him well in San Diego.

This player loss is a serious loss from the core of the team. It will hurt. We can rationalize his cost and slightly declining skills but he was a singularly tough DT and NT and he just got the job done in this scheme reliably and at the top level. It will be very hard to replace Mebane's character and his ability. He will be missed this coming seasons do as a Seahawks player.

Older players can stopgap the job, but the team now really needs to find a young stud they can develop and let grow into his position. Fortunately they really basically need to just look for a special 2 down or better player who's greatest strength is stuffing the run. But that part of the young player's game needs to be special and not just OK. I hope the team can find that guy.

I'm disappointed to not have 'Bane here but understand the cap can be cruel. Just wish the money could have been there to let him finish his career here.

It was a pleasure to have watched him destroy the effectiveness of the many double teams he faced. I'm bummed by this loss.

Friend of mine (non Hawk fan) told me that supposedly Mayock said there was 10 DTs in this draft who he thinks deserves a first round grade. I wonder if that's how we go now.

Been a fan of Mebane from day 1. I actually was hoping they would take him in 2nd round because i didn't think he would be around in the 3rd.

Sad to see him go, but teams that hold onto players too long tend to get worse.

Good luck, you're going back to Cali

Thank you Mr. Mebane,

Your effort, professionalism, and class were recognized and appreciated.

Congratulations on your new contract. Wish it could have been here in Seattle.

Probably wise to spend this money elsewhere than on a 31 year old declining DT when it's said to be a strong draft upcoming for DT's.

Maybe they bring back Tony McDaniel for around the vet minimum along with a high draft pick. I'm guessing signing a guy like McDaniel wouldn't cost a comp pick.
