Fire everyone involved on the Defense...

Its a bigger issue than "talent"

This shit is straight up shit coaching poor prep and its been a downward spiral like that since the LOB went bye bye. Since we let Quinn go.

So yeah... Fire Pete to idgaf. He's been here the longest. He's been the one picking the leg humping yes men who are loyal to him.

It’s on Pete. This is his defense.
I know but if i opened up saying that then it would be standard
"who would you get to replace!?!?"
"He brought us a SB!"
AND every other excuse.

But 1000% Fire PC.. He can't build a defense for shit.

This is about the players, not the coaching. Ken Norton JR had horrible zone concepts that left players wide open. That is bad coaching.

This team? This team can't shed blocks and tackle. Coaching is not going to fix that.

Pete is an elite organization manager and head of an organization. He does so many things well, but he has consistently hired subpar coordinators and put the wrong people in his ear. The fact that Hurtt got a promotion on the position that has consistently under performed since he's been D-Line coach is dumb founding.

Who was responsible for coaching up and identifying key players on the D-Line? Oh, that is right -- our DC and head coach.

Hurtt should have never been given this job to begin with. There’s been zero DL development, why should he be in charge of the game day defensive decisions? Pete should move on from him immediately.

That said, the guys on D are some of the softest group of dudes I’ve ever seen play in the NFL. There is no leader. There’s no one who creates negative plays. Genuinely embarrassing how they get bullied every week. Hapless Panthers just went across the country and dropped 30 on this pathetic group of dudes. The saddest part is they will still roll with this starting roster because there’s absolutely no one who is pushing for the starting jobs. I hope JS is able to get some dawgs in the draft this year so we never have to see most of these guys play another down for Seattle.

This is 1000000000000000000000000% about the coaching. When you see the same shit year after year and the players are the only thing usually different. Its coaching. The fact its been its been a constant downward trend. Thats coaching.

And the fact Pete cannot CANNOT seem to actually coach any players or coaches up tells me he also ISN'T some defensive Guru. Far too many failed "project" players than successful
and what's more annoying? Pete keeps them around and ships off dudes who typically are BETTER. Why!? Or why does he keep hiring subpar coaches. Not Only do we not have anything for a run defense but those stupid fucks if anyone's noticed are lining up damn near 2 yrs OFF the LOS?!!??

Who was the last player Pete has developed successfully?????? lol His "defense" relies on getting Stars MEANT for the positions they're in. Kam SS, Sherm CB, Woolen CB, Earl FS, All dudes PC saw and or played against while at USC, all dudes who were studs and stars at their actual positions they were drafted for. And lets not start on the reclamation projects that seem to fizzle out after a year of a wasted roster spot. And successful ones are typically the ones with JS's hands in them,

like Chenna, but Chenna was good he was just behind someother stud in SD

The defense under Ken Norton was actually pretty good against the run. Not like the sieve they have now. With that said, I don't think Norton was a great DC but Hurtt isn't either and his defense is worse at stopping the run. If you can't stop the run, you can't control the clock.

People were too harsh on KNJ. They hyperfixated on the "DL in coverage" thing due to a common misunderstanding about how NFL defenses operate.

Hurtt deserves most of what he's getting, though.

Was there something wrong with last week's Fire Clint Hurtt thread that we needed a new one?

You mean beside the current top cornerback in Pro Bowl voting who also happens to be a rookie...?
Who Pete didn't develop... his coach from college did while he was in college and switching from WR to CB and only played a year as.. and excelled at it enough to make it into a career so far in the NFL. Also didn't need to develop as he came in as a starter. Thats not Pete. Pete didn't coach him in college.

A new coaching staff is not going to fix this defense. This team needed to inject a lot more talent into the front 7. Hell, they needed to just get average 34 players on the roster, to begin with.

Are the coaches above criticism? No. Will a new coaching staff fix everything? Also no.

Please tell me you're not being serious.

Did you happen to watch a lick of his UTSA tape? The guy was so bad on tape that he slipped to the fifth round despite being the absolute ideal cornerback measurable-wise and one of the fastest players of all time.

Can we get your "Pete did or did not develop" checklist? Do you have a google doc that shows who does and who does not get credit?

Carroll is very good at coaching up secondary players. The big issue here is since Quinn left we've had a hell of a time finding D-Lineman. Usually we hire a bunch of lower tier FA's here to fill the voids and we haven't been able to draft competent lineman. Even under Quinn, half of our heavy hitter lineman were from the Ruskell era. Bryant, Mebane, and Bennett.
