Honestly I don’t want reed back. Got suspended like a moron. Came back and was garbage/invisible on the field and obviously not keeping himself in shape. Then plays a handful of games last season and try’s to command top dollar? No
Thanks . Someone else can pay him to get in trouble and play like crap. If we weren’t dangerously thin on the d line we wouldn’t even consider paying him

His suspension was ridiculous, I would assume you aren't aware of why he was suspended.

Don't know about ridiculous, but somewhat questionable, technically, according to news reports.

In my estimation the whole Reed thing serves mostly to bolster just how important it is for us to get Clowney resigned to our defence.

I'd be fine with Reed coming back on a one year prove it deal for less than 10M.

But it's been pretty clear that Frank Clark made Reed look VERY good for a couple seasons, because he came crashing back down to earth after the suspension and was pretty much a non factor down the stretch.

I honestly can't see any team giving him a lucrative long term contract. Still might leave, but it's not going to be for big money.

I hope they don't pay him. Hes inconsistent, oft injured and simply isnt a game changer.

Maybe at SF

It's easy to get caught up in speculative bidding for star power. And, it's easy to forget Pete's foundation scheme which emphasis a rotation of players featuring unique play making attributes that accommodate roster adjustments and invite favorable in season match ups.

An interest in pursuing developmental LEO prospects began before the 2019 season ended. Disruptive players and exceptional speed players and strength players are desirable. But, it is fielding the best 7 rotational players that is the priority. In 2019 Clowney led with 57% of the defensive snaps. Brandon Jackson finished 7th in defensive snap percentages with 38.9%. That a nice range for a 7 man rotation.

So just as Frank Clark exceeded their cap budget. I can see them losing Jadeveon Clowney to a higher bidder. And their looking. Just look what rush specialist showed up on this forum front page for speculation once again ....... LEO/OLB Bruce Irvin,

On the inside they have a long successful history of finding veterans with this years free agency defensive tackles loaded. So if Jarran Reed ends up leaving like fan favorite Brandon Mebane did, well lets just say they have a proven history of adjusting for roster changes.

My understanding, as a fan of Pete's roster building approach, is that it Is the competition and resulting make up of the defensive line rotation is what is most important.

He is NOT often injured.
As far as signing him, this is a tough one for the Front office. If they don't sign him, a bunch of people will say how stupid they are for letting him go. If they DO sign him, a bunch of people will say they're stupid for spending so much money on him. Though I highly doubt they care much at all about what other people think about their moves.

I'm willing to place a friendly wager for anyone who attends games regularly... I go to most usually 6-7 per season to include preseason.

So here's my bet. I think we resign Clowney, for the first two people that take me up on this I am willing to buy you and a friend a beer or shot (or two for you) at Temple's before a game next year if we don't keep him. If he leaves you have to buy me a drink and snap a photo of us partaking together for bragging rights. Any takers?

Anyone else willing to bet?

I'll take the bet Wen; although, I'm hoping I lose. Would love to see Clowney back with us next year.

Given a choice between keeping Reed and keeping Clowney, I would pick Clowney all day.

Since we lost Reed, maybe we can keep Clowney.

I am worried we are going to overpay for some FA that is a much crappier Reed, and not keep Clowney - but there is still hope. Clowney incredibly important to our defense against the rush. The pass rush is just a bonus. That he can do both is almost an imperative that we keep him.

We lost Reed?? When did that happen? I don't know if your listening to the same stuff I am but last I heard we signed him.

My mistake, I meant Jefferson. I should probably edit it - but I think you know the intent.

Appreciate Soulfish giving me the benefit of the doubt.

In any event, whatever we pay Clowney is probably worth it because our defense is only average now, we would suck without him.

Scary thought w/out him here. He's so disruptive, the stats don't come close to showing how impressive he is. He's a game changer and a guy that the other team has to game plan for. I bet he's top 3 in the league in being double teamed, and I guarantee he's top 3 in being held while trying to rush the passer.

Hopeful sounding article in the Times today on Clowney.

https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/sea ... ng-better/

As Quinton Jefferson heads off to Buffalo, are Seahawks’ chances of keeping Jadeveon Clowney getting better?

Basically says that the fact Clowney has not been signed away in the first couple of days might indicate they are still in meaningful negotiations with him in Seattle.

This is an interesting development which may help the tea.

You're right JVille. Clowney essentially holding out for the big purse while a virtual glut of DE/Rusher types were snatched up for his price range filled holes which sort of left him JC high and dry. Now we have to figure out how to get him signed.
