You All Are Wrong Blaming Meyers Missed Kick for the Loss

If offensive holding had not been called on K9's TD, which was called back, that miss would have not mattered and we would have won the game.

Not sure anybody is really blaming Myers. It was hardly a chip shot. But it is a small part of losing the game, whereas there are numerous big reasons why we lost, like the 4 turnovers. ;)

-- If Myers makes that kick, we win the game. Not theoretical, not "if the refs". Black and white, we win. So he caused us not to win at the end, but I don't "blame" him for the loss if that makes sense. I had ZERO expectation that he would make that kick. ZERO. And it wasn't about the distance although that didn't help. I just don't think he is "clutch". If you are tied, he can make a game winner, if the pressure of a miss is a loss is there, then not so much.

I'm not seeing very many people, if any at all, blaming Myers for the loss.

Meyers is not a guy that I expect to make it from 60+ yards. In my opinion, that distance is much closer to the "hope and a prayer" end of the spectrum, than the "I like his chances" end of the spectrum (for Meyers).

Myers doesn’t have this sort of distance in his leg reliably at this point. Plus we have seen a few dodgy looking kicks (even some makes have looked ugly) this year. I had no expectation he was making that. My annoyance (beyond Sam) was Kubiak draining so much clock in the 4th q with us down two scores. Was infuriating and yep it cost us the game at the end. Even 30 more seconds would have been enough in all likelihood

One more play would’ve got it done

I was also surprised Kupp didn’t manage to get in the end zone when he wasn’t touched. This drained more clock and looked close to him getting in but wasn’t checked…. Thought as a vet he should have done more to get the ball across the plane.

We had our chances. I thought the clock managment was awful at the end,
Hawks should have started playing up tempo around the 8 minute mark. Then that f';n punt that nailed us on the 1 ft line..and as one poster mentioned, it took so much time to get out of the 20 yard line, and it wasn't because of anything other than being rather have not enough sense of urgency. Well I thought.,

Everyone looks at the end of the game to assign blame. They were many other plays and times throughout the game that could have changed things. How about our red zone scoring? Or letting a couple big run plays go. There are probably 50 other instances they are pointing out in film study of this game. The obvious is the interceptions. Also expecting a 61 yard field goal is a big ask. Nobody makes those consistently. Plus he had just set his own personal best earlier in the game with a 58 yarder. He is a decent kicker just not a long range guy. Clock management at the end of the game while not the best was not as bad as everyone is bemoaning about. The only reason people are making it a big deal is because gGreg Olsen was bitching about it. He whined about clock management the end of the first half and it worked out perfectly for us.

That f'n punt that was downed at the half yard line didn't help. Awesome kick, sucked for us. What if we had started 5-7 yards further downfield? Myers makes the kick? So close!

There's been a noticeable elevation in what we can expect/kickers are capable of in recent years. Some people site the treatment of the footballs as a factor in this. Whatever. Myers isn't a bad kicker. He's been kind of league average in his career. His consistency is a bit up and down, even to the point where people talk about his odd/even years. He does, however, make me nervous. Even when he makes many of his kicks I'm squirming in my seat to help them eke through the uprights. He has been better of late drilling them through the mids of them

I certainly don't think he's one of these new breed kickers, though, where I feel confident of them drilling it through from 50,55, 60 yards or even more. I want one of those. I want one of those kickers where two passes after a kickoff and they're in range. LOL

*Myers

Seriously, he has more points than anyone who has ever put on a Seahawks uniform, and fans still can't get his name right.

Also, who is putting 100% of the blame on him? It was an embarrassing attempt though, and in an adapt or die league, it's a competitive disadvantage to have a kicker losing his range. I wouldn't suggest cutting him, but his position should be looked at in the offseason. Teams are finding these guys while investing very little.

It wasn't that he missed the kicked, it just wasn't even close

People acting like 60-yard kicks and kickers are a dime a dozen, but here are the real stats on 60-yard or more kicks in the last year and a half.

Only 11 kicks of 60 yards or more have been made in 2024, and 2025, and only 8 kickers have made them.

Myers made a 61 yarder in 2020.

60 yards - 2025 Boswell (Steelers) 2024 Aubrey (Cowboys)

61 yards - 2025 Havrisik (Packers), Aubrey (Cowboys) 2024 Bass (Bills)

62 yards - 2025 Reichard (Vikings) 2024 Nobody

63 yards - 2025 None 2024 Slye (Patriots)

64 yards - 2025 Aubrey (Cowboys) 2024 None

65 yards - 2025 McLaughlin (Buccaneers) 2024 Aubrey (Cowboys)

68 yards - 2025 Little (Jaguars) 2024 Nobody

So a 72% completion rate from 60+ according to your stats and sample size.

There are young kickers coming into the league, with power, that can kick the ball with a straight-line trajectory, without the erratic curveballs that Myers kicks on a regular basis.

Myers is the 7th highest paid player on this team? Time for a young league minimum type with a big leg.
