Chance Warmack- with the right coaching I think he'd do well
Malcolm Smith- bring him back into the scheme and rotation
Calais Campbell- may be too expensive but a few on this board think he'd be great here
Adrian Peterson- only for the right price but I think he's still a premiere back in great shape. Also he's had a few years to rest so he should be somewhat fresh with something to prove.
Any LT or RT that hadn't played basketball in college or TE in their past

If we sign AP I'm going to puke. He is unwilling to provide blitz pickup, he's fumble prone and he absolutely cannot function as a receiver. The reason he's HOF material is his pure running skills were other-worldly and those are diminished to a point that he just isn't worth any price tag. He's washed up.

I don't think we'll do anything other than add depth.

What we need is last year's rookie class to mature in a hurry because this cycle of trotting out Cable-approved garbage on the oline is robbing us of years of contention. Ifedi and Fant either improve or we watch another frustratingly inept offensive line coat is a shot at a Super Bowl.

That said, I'm very optimistic about last year's rookie class as a whole.

The top RT in the market, solid already with upside. 27 years old, played in a ZBS in Baltimore. Maybe a little more finesse than Cable likes but would be a long-terms solution. Most of the talk has been around getting a LT, but I get the sense that the org is bullish on Fant. With Wagner on board Gilliam could push Fant at LT and back up both spots.


2. Nick Perry - SAM/DE, Green Bay

Played for Pete at USC and has Seahawk-y athletic traits (33" arms, 39" vert, 4.64 40 at 271 pounds). 26 years old, broke through this past year with double digit sacks. Could handle SAM duties and be a solid upgrade over Cassius Marsh as a Nickel DE.


I think both could be had with a combined 1st-year cap hit of $12-13M, but that might be overly optimistic.

Jared Odrick, DT - Jacksonville - Scheme fit one year removed from a dominant year as an interior pass rusher.

Menelik Watson, RT - Oakland - Mauler RT with huge upside who is cheap and a scheme fit.

Wagner's reportedly signing with Detroit.

The premium UFAs don't interest me at all. The Hawks have the right mindset. They broke their own unwritten policy by trading for and signing Percy. Signing outside guys will often cause problems with your roster.

The low cost signings like Sowell, Thorpe, and trades that bring in guys like McDonald and McCray don't upset the roster either financially or psychologically. Imagine if the Hawks had not gone after Percy and instead signed Tate.

I expect the Hawks will sign a FA tackle but won't break the bank.

The Hawks have taken a lot of criticism for signing Webb and Sowell. They signed players who were available. The market looks better this year and I believe they can get a better tackle this season.

Late UFA and street free agency will likely help fill out roster spots that aren't filled in the draft.

The Hawks have some cap room but hopefully they plan to use it on their own players by extending the contracts of Kam, Avril and Britt, etc.

- Leary to me is trending upwards as a quietly elite player, the Brandon Mebane of OG.

#2 DL, Calais Campbell
- Instantly makes our front 7 best in the NFL, moving Frank Clark into the Bruce Irvin role, which new Coach Clint Hurtt expertise seems perfectly suited for.
- Can start Campbell at 3T, moving Rubin to NT. Or have a big front moving Avril into reserve/pass-rush specialist role but will get plenty of opportunities in the rotation keeping everyone fresh.
- I want to imagine a Nickel front with Clark, Bennett, Campbell, Avril, Wagner, and Wright just destroying QBs.

On lesser note, I would take Jahri Evans and Breno Giacomini on 1 yr, 1m deals to provide depth and some more veteran presence for the young guys.
