They know each other well, does Wilson go after him? Can Sherman cover Tyler or DK? Is Sherman as good with out ET having his back?

I have a feeling Sherman want's this one bad and Pete doesn't want to face loosing to ET a week ago and then Sherman, although they would both take great pleasure in beating their former coach and making a statement, especially with as bad as Seattle's D is this year.

I don't think Sherman will have any trouble with DK, but even in his prime here he seemed to struggle (a little) with the smaller, quicker receivers. Hopefully, they can scheme so he has to match up with Tyler some.

A bit off topic but did anyone else notice that ET sought out and embraced Russell Wilson after that game? Clearly he didn’t have the animosity towards RW that was hinted when he left? Makes me wonder what we will see with Sherm.

People think they don't like each other because seven years ago Sherman yelled "you suck" after picking off Wilson in practice.

My guess is it's waaaay overblown and they have a nice moment.

Add to the fact that they have already squared off twice since Sherman left.

All of that "stuff" that you sometimes see in the first game against your old team is out of the way.

IMO Russ could care less what Sherman says, thinks, or does, Russ just wins and Sherm just talks while his team wins, big difference. If Schotty is smart he'll just put Lockett or DK where Sherm isn't and let Russ be Russ, if he wants to troll Sherm he'll put Fant out there again on him-which would be awesome.

Really good point.

More generally, I think we as fans get more hyped up for this stuff than the players do.

For instance, from the GM on down Joe Staley and Kyle Nelson (the long snapper) are literally the only two people on the 9ers roster who were with the team when 9ers/Seahawks was an actual rivalry.

Throw in Sherman if you want to I guess and that leaves 50 of 53 players and an entire coaching staff on the 9ers side who has no reason to care at all beyond it being a divisional game against the second place team in the division.

In all likelihood, Russell feels the same way about Sherm that the rest of us do. Respect his game and his smarts, but don't always enjoy his personality which is a bit too brash and narcissistic. For a guy like Wilson that was raised to be a humble team guy, it probably means they don't hang. you can tell the guys that Wilson really "gets". Lockett, Dissly, Willson, DK. Wilson is more likely to hang with those kinds of guys.

Sherm disliked Russ when he was still here, and he will always have a giant chip on his shoulder from getting released with a failed physical. He'll come to play, but then again so will the 49ers as a team. Their missing starters--Staley, McClinchey, Juice, Witherspoon--have all targeted the Seattle game for when they'll be back from injuries.

I'd target Sherm over Spoon with Lockett, though. Sherm doesn't have the speed.

Just have Sherman try tackling Carson ... That's all we need. We know, Sherman can't cover Tyler Lockett. But that's not what we need.

Wilson already threw a td pass on sherman i believe to brown. It wasnt man but zone but still to shermans area. Its whatever. If SF wins, sherman will talk.

Wouldn't be surprised if only two of those four (Staley and Juice) end up being back for this game, although yeah, all four have been on the timeline to be back (it's just the other two haven't practiced yet and won't until tomorrow so there's still some questions with them).

Gameplan wise it's in Wilsons best interest to stay away from Sherman and attack the rest of the DB's. If the OC notices Sherman having issues staying with Lockett or Metcalf go at him later. I wouldn't come out of the gate trying to test Shermans side.

I haven't seen much footage of Sherman since he left Seattle, but when he was here he was one of the best tackling corners I've ever seen. That's what made the dude special; there were guys you could argue that were better in coverage but Sherman was the best all around corner this team has had since the old days.

Tyler has been killing defenses by lining up in the slot on the strong side and then cutting up field to the weak side making catch after catch. Sherm won't be covering him in the slot.

About ET -Russ and ET worked out at UCLA last Summer. Their wives and kids got close so that’s why ET and Russ have nothing but great things to say about each other.

About Sherm -They do not get along and this isn’t a reality show where it’s scripted or where they can create drama. It’s real. He’s telling all the Bay Area writers to stay with their off season predictions, which were bad. Sherm wants to keep the chip on his shoulder and I do not see him change with attitude with Russ or Pete. In fact, with an 8-0 record, he may get louder. Will he be polite this week at the pressers? Maybe. We’ll see. I can see him joking around with BWags before and after the game. Not so much with Russ.

I'd say take sherm out of the game. How? Put our leased gone to receiver on sherm and let him run around all night.

Like Sherm say, "it a waste of my time" so lets do that.

Meanwhile back at HQ, the plan will be Dangeruss to Deadlest Katch... Wilson to DK. :229031_thewave:

I expect to see Lockett against Sherman a lot, Lockett is Quick and breaks out of his cuts cleanly and can eat Sherman up that way, Gordon and Metcalf are what would be easier to cover for him, the pass rush won't give Wilson all day for them to get a lot of separation deep which plays into Sherman's hands as he doesn't have to worry about their over all speed as much.

What kind of defense do the 49'ers play though? Do the CB's follow their receivers from side to side or do they just stick to one side like Sherman did in our defense? Either way he can't cover both Lockett, Moore, and Metcalf. How good is the rest of their secondary and their number 2 corner?
