Will Scruggs/Irvin get more pressure than Irvin/Clemons?

I'm going to assume, ALOT of what we've harped on Bruce about this year, is due to his role. He was simply a better player when he had to slide into Clem's role. I know, I know it was VERY SMALL sample size. But still, it was a noticable difference. And, it would make sense because of Irvin's strength.

Scruggs is a tweener DE/Interior guy. So, he cant possibly be entirely enveloped by a RT like Irvin can. Plus, he's more polished technique waise. Scruggs HAS to have additonal moves. So, maybe he can apply more consistent pressure from that side.

This is all really sad, because I love Clemons. And, it'll hurt in other aspects for sure. But, it may indeed add pressure to this rush.

I think Bruce will be great. I also think it will force Carroll and Bradley to get more creative, which will help.

Seemed to me what we saw was more a product of defensive scheme and game situation- blitzing Cousins, who was trying to mount a comeback through the air- than it was Irvin's better play.

There were also a couple of runs in his direction that looked... poor.

Im more worried in run defense. Clemons is a great run defender while Irvin has looked pretty bad against the run so far.

Bruce played well when he went in for Clem. But to be fair the redskins were one dimensional by that stage of the game.

Clem is a huge loss but Irvin did step up. We need to get pressure on Matt Ryan to win next week.

He will so do fine rushing , my concern is when they run at him. The Redskins did it twice and just ran over him

Clem does well playing the run. He is underestimated I think. Plus he has more veteran moves as a rush DE. Irvin is still wet behind the ears and with the loss of Jason Jones, has lost a DT that he can stunt with.

I hope he and Scruggs can step up but I am not expecting it. Losing Clemons is going to hurt big time.

how good is ray edwards? Like his potential. I don't know a thing about him.
I know that he was with ATL for over half the season before they cut him loose. Think he got in the dog house pretty early with them.

Really, if Clem is OUT out, I wouldn't hesitate to bring in Edwards. I think he fits the role well and would definitely bring his A game against the team that canned him.

Praying to god that Clem is good to go though and it's a big non issue.

All I know is that SOMEONE needs to step up for us next week. If we are left with one primary pass rusher we will be hurting.

He wasn't better because of the role. He was better because the team started blitzing frequently after Clemons got hurt. Irvin was also helped by RG3 holding onto the ball late in the game. Then Cousins came in later and held the ball even longer. Irvin may not be great at getting quick sacks, but he's as good at getting hustle sacks as there is.

Do we have a DE on the practice squad who might be able to step in and add some pressure?

Kind of wish we had Law right about now. He was claimed back when I think though. Doesn't matter we need a proven pass rusher to come in and help if Clem really is out.
