When they play, who do we root for? I would have assumed the Saints but with the 9ers loss, is it better to get a Saints loss to help ensure home field advantage?

depends on your perspective.

Saints have a tougher schedule than the 49ers do. They still play the panthers twice, @ the rams, and of course @ seattle.

the 49ers potentially could not lose another game all year if they don't lose this one.

So personally i'm hoping for a saints win.

Plus I'm confident that the Seahawks can take care of business against the saints at home, and I'd almost put money on beating SF in their house.

Of course we control our own destiny. Whatever happens in NO/SF, if we win our next 3 games we win the division and likely have the NFC wrapped up with one win in any of our remaining games.

My take? Root for the Saints. First of all, just in general principle nothing makes me happier (other than a Seahawks win) than a Niner loss. Secondly, HFA doesn't matter if the Seahawks don't win the division, so make sure that San Fran isn't going to take the division first, then worry about HFA. Finally when you look at scheduling, after the NO game, Seattle is about the only really hard opponent that the Niners have left. OTOH the Saints have a fairly brutal schedule down the stretch including facing Carolina twice and Carolina is more than good enough to take at least one of those games.

don't worry about rooting for either team. Take care of our own games, play like we should and everything else becomes moot.

Saints

-SF has an easier remaining schedule
- I'm more confident in a win vs NO at Cent Link then I am a win vs. SF at Candlestick
- Clinching NFC West is priority #1

Saints. Win the division first. Hope we then beat the saints.

Saints. Trust we take care of business at home the rest of the year.

This is the thing. The difference between two playoff games at home vs. three on the road is vast. And so the digits need to be buried, as deeply as possible. It's a shame that two of the three best teams in the conference are in the same division. One of those teams is gettin' screwed.

There's many ways to look at it, but I think most people would want the 49ers to win this week. If the 49ers do win, the Saints fall to 7-3 and will have the same record with the Niners and we'll be in better position to keep the #1 seed in the NFC since the Saints are the closest team to our record and have just lost. The Niners will be the #5 WC. Also if this scenario happens and CAR or DET win, they would need a tiebreaker to determine the #2 seed since they're all 7-3.

If the Saints win, the Niners fall to 6-4. The Saints are 8-2 and are still not far behind us in the NFC. That being said, if ARZ wins, they'll also be 6-4 and tied with SF in the division and their places would need to be determined by tiebreakers. If SF continues to lose and AZ pulls off some wins, we might see SF out of the playoffs completely and AZ in their place instead, but it's a little far fetched.

I'm just rooting for them to beat each other up and have a close game..... I don't think it really matters to us at this time... We will beat them both before our season is over and we have Home Field advantage....GO HAWKS!!!

It's irrelevant in terms of playoff seeding. Seattle controls its own destiny. If they win out their 4 home games, they could still lose their away games, including to SF, and still win home field advantage, on head-to-head vs. Saints, and common opponents vs. SF.

Mitch Levy on KJR yesterday with Hugh Millen spelled it all out very nicely (download his podcast).

Ew gross. Root for the Niners to win? I actually like the Saints so this will be easy for me.
