My daughters are 12's because of my fandom while they were growing up, and I've never seen fit to question their fandom. I often watch Hawks games with them and my sons-in-law when we're all in town. One doesn't have to justify, does one? She becomes a 12 because of her father or just like the team color, what's the difference?
I now live in Florida, and I found myself consoling some fair-weather Dolphin fans on YT after the Hawks beat them earlier this season, explaining to them the Hawks are actually a decent team and when Tua comes back, good things will happen for their team, and no, Tua and McDaniel actually don't horribly suck. Our fandom of a team becomes part of who we are. My younger daughter went to college in Cleveland, and I got exposed to all things Dog-Pound through her. She's still a 12 after returning to the Pac NW.
