Who else is worried about Byron Murphey?

Idk. I feel like I have a healthy amount of worry. The type of worry I have when an investment hasn't matured yet. Just like investing, it's not always about face value of your principle ivestment, but also opportunity cost. I.e, what if I invested the same capital into something else that performed better. I think that's the main worry, especially when you see shiny toys like Carter and Verse performing. But at the same time this shit is hard and you gotta take your wins. Most of the time I'm happy with a successful investment even if I could of made more on another asset. As long as I avoided a stinker (bust) I am reasonably happy.

the only thing I'm worried about for Murphy is where he and Reed would be placed on at defensive line, and who would be the better nose tackle for us. I still don't know whether we should line Reed at LDE and Murphy at NT, the other way around or a combination of both.

I suppose a bigger question is what the team’s expectations were and are of Murphy.

IMO, I believe he was brought in to anchor the middle of the defensive line and plug up the running lanes, take on double teams and allow others more 1 v 1 ops. Some of these comments suggest that others had a much more higher expectation for him last season.

In the thread when he was first drafted, I was the one who said I didn’t like the pick, said his arms were too short and called him a poor mans Aaron Donald. I was laughed and ripped apart at the time, and shortly after got locked out of my account. It was my own fault, but wasn’t able to follow up on that conversation much longer.

It concerned me watching some of the college tape where Murphy would drop down on one knee to provide an anchor, something that I felt would get him ran over and potentially injured in the NFL. Last season, I don’t recall seeing him try that maneuver, but I could be wrong.

So, all in all, as I’ve said earlier in this thread, I felt that he did what was asked of him. People thinking he was going to make a bunch of splash plays are rightfully disappointed and concerned, but I just don’t see him as that type of a player. He’s a brick wall, not a disruptive type of linemen, imo

Am I happy with Murphy? umm, most folks on .NET are pleased, certainly happier than the summer after Collier's freshman year.

Would I be happier if we drafted Jared Verse? Probably, Verse's PFF grade of 89.3 was borderline elite. Our boy Murphy? 58.2.

Of course, on .NET, pff's grading only counts when they graded one of our boys well.

Um, take a look who Verse played next to. Sure I'll get flamed, but man people spend a lot of time dwelling on players from OTHER teams.
The draft is and always has been a crapshoot, period.

The Carter thing is just hindsight now that he worked out. If he didn’t work out you wouldn’t hear a peep from these folks. People like to ridicule the Malik McDowell pick when Carter came with WAY more red flags. Makes 0 sense, except from a “I like to bitch about everything” perspective.

Nothing wrong with saying that he underwhelmed as a rookie. Will be interesting to see how his 2nd season goes.

I think people who had the proper expectations for what he was drafted to do are far from underwhelmed

And the expectations were appropriately set immediately after he was drafted. Most of us knew he was a line setter/run stuffer. If one thought Murphy was a different type of player, they only have themselves to blame

Our boy played next to none other than Leonard Williams and Jarren Reed, both excellent veterans.
