Who else is worried about Byron Murphey?

Some people were disappointed with JSN's season last year too, even though the analysis showed JSN with the largest separation of our WR's. He had "a few flashes" with superior routes and amazing concentration/hands...but for some, stats didn't meet expectations for a #1 drafted WR.

Seems to be working out.

Pretty sure I recall it being posted that our win% in games when he played was a lot higher than it was when while he wasn't able to play.
We were 10-4 and we gave up 18.6 ppg when he played, we were 0-3 without him and gave up 35.6 ppg.

I'd call that an impact. Also, before anyone starts asking about quality of the competition, one of those 3 losses were to the Giants.

He was a difference maker on the field, and it showed when he wasn't playing. Not to mention he was a workhorse when he was getting snaps. Only a handful of players command the attention of mulitiple opponents at the same time, Murphy is one of them (already).

As Maulbert pointed out, he made an impact to the team and played within the scheme. I am sure MikeMac is a trilled to have this young stud.

I think he’ll be ok. I’m not convinced he’ll be a ‘star’ like he was at Texas but, I do think he’ll be upper tier.

Going to stray a bit….hindsight is 20/20. Love Spoon…one of my favorite Seahawks now.

Throw out all the ifs, maybes, ‘he had GA Bulldog teammates”, ‘may have not worked out’ banter and imagine this….we could’ve had Carter which would’ve driven passing on Murphy and grabbing Verse

Ooooooowheeee.

Not a bust but not a good pick

He is ranked much lower on most redrafts

Anyone saying he was a great pick is a fool
So, honest question, what would his stats have to look like at the end of this season for you to be fully onboard with the pick?

Yeah good information here.

He was a rookie as well. I’d say he has a great trajectory and I’m looking forward to seeing his second season with the team.

I've made this point before but I'll continue to make it. The Seahawks don't need a "true NT" to start.

Byron Murphy is your starting NT and shade guy. You know why Mac likes him there? Murphy can play pretty much play every alignment.

You want to know more? Very few times did Hankins in 2024 actually lined up as a 0T. You want Murphy's versatility there. He's the only one on the line with that type of versatility. Reed to an extent has done it, but he's not that effective against the run anymore.

Serious question. For people that keep clamoring for a NT high in the draft. When has JS ever draft a "true NT" in the first few rounds? Reed was drafted in the 2nd as a 1T and future 3T.

I would like to see Murphy lose about 15 lbs, get down to 285 and play a penetrating 3 tech and draft a 0/1 tech. If you keep Murphy at NT he will never improve stats wise
This is a very common misconception. Murphy didn't line up much at NT because the Hawks weren't in true 0T alignments all that much.

Murphy lined up everywhere. His overall stats were fine. The Hawks have a lot of mouths to feed at DT. Murphy needs to show he can take rush snaps away from Williams and Reed first.

For one he was out of position. Two, he was double teamed most of the time. Three, his game wasn’t QB pressures/sacks. He’s a run 1st that has plenty of time to develop his pass rush.

Not at all worried, extremely young. I thought he played well and should get better in time.
Murphy is not out of position. I truly feel like Mac is using him the way he should be used. A true Swiss army knife on the D line.

Murphy was double teamed on 54.8% of the snaps he played. That was second on the team behind Jarran Reeds 58.1%. Opposing coaches don’t double teamed busts, Jags, or situational players just because. They make game plans to minimize the impact of the better players on the field. Just because a player doesn’t show up on the stat sheet in ways that fans can understand (sacks, tackles, pressures) doesn’t mean they are not making an impact.
Too many fans think if a first round rookie isn’t the best player at their position right out of the gate then they are clearly a bust. Murphy played well as a rookie and will continue to get better.

I don’t know if he was underwhelming cause there’s stuff that doesn’t show up as flashy that he did. Also how much did he free Leo? What I do know is what it looked like when he wasn’t out there and we had some problems against the run without his help inside
