The almost comeback win in the playoff game at Atlanta further proved he is an elite quarterback in the NFL.

But if you're downplaying the significance of the opposing QB to the ability to win games, especially road games, then there's not much more I can say.

Super Bowl winning QBs + (total yardage defense)
Flacco + 17th ranked defense
E. Manning + 27th ranked defense
Rodgers + 5th ranked defense
Brees + 23rd ranked defense
Roethlisberger + 2nd ranked defense

Now, the common thread between most of those defenses was the ability to make turnovers at crucial times. But overall, each of those champions (with the possible exception in Roethlisberger) was won because of an elite QB making great plays in the clutch.

Bears game. I've always wanted a quarterback that could beat a good team, on the road, when the chips are stacked against them, with a touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.

Wilson did it twice in the same game. I needed to see that he could do it. And he did. Then he did it again against Atlanta, too quickly it turned out.

Making "clutch" plays is always good of course, whether against a defense that is being run over or not. Wilson seems more resilient than Kaepernick when the defense is stifling. See the games @ Seattle & @ STL.

Different topic really. If you want to combine the two, then I think Wilson would be more likely to make a clutch play in close, low-scoring games. Kaepernick hasn't shown he can handle defensive pressure. He HAS shown he can handle "offensive" pressure, where the pressure to keep up is coming from the other team's offense.

kap and Russ also have good defense backing them up

But your point is all the QB mentioned are SB winners Kap is not

Actually, I was one of those in the Flynn camp. I can't recall the game (NOT Zona), but it was actually in a loss that RW won me over. Prior to that game, I was about benching him for Flynn. But in that loss, I became aware that he was special and deserved more time. He's not let me down since.

And it looks like Matt Flynn will be beaten out by yet another Wilson. Cruel.

As a Nebraska fan, this sucked. That little kid torched my boys, I thought for sure there would be a nice win in WI...INSTEAD!...a 48-17 beat down!


Second paragraph of this recap sounds pretty familiar. The parts that mention Wilson seem pretty spot on to be honest.

This run is sick, he has amazing awareness, and keeps his eyes down field until the last possible moment. What's special about Russell that a lot of people are going to realize this year is his passing ability on the run. If a defensive unit gives Wilson the chance to run, and forgets to cover Tate/Baldwin/Harvin, and Wilson sees it, there's a HUGE chance that pass goes for 6. If they do cover, well...you just gave up a quarter of the field...that's no good either.

I knew from watching him play high school. Saw him make a play, turned to his coaches (because I drink with all of them regularly on their houseboats) and told 'em "Call up my buddy Tom O'Brien, we've got a future star here."

It was the Bears game for me as well that absolutely solidified that we finally had OUR franchise QB at last.

My wife and I watch the Hawks games after we DVR them. Just before the Hawks started their last drive of regulation play (didn't it start at the 4 yard line?)... I paused the game and turned to my wife and said...

This drive will make or break the Hawks season. If we march down and score a TD and WIN this game, look out for the Hawks the rest of the year.

The end of that game was magical.

And yes, I still have game on My DVR. :th2thumbs:

Russell's #Believe tweet before the Chicago game, watching the constant comeback drives with him completely in command, especially the read zone wrinkle, and his #Believe tweet after the game sold me. I haven't doubted him since (and I was one of the more strong pro Flynn people earlier in year, all through the Miami fiasco right before Chicago).

The fact that our QB has such self belief in himself and his ability to change the game, and can back it up is amazing. Even down 2+ scores against Atlanta I had belief in him turning it around, and we did, just scored 30 seconds too soon... September can not get here fast enough.

And there in lies the difference in opinion. You mentioned the @ STL game, Kaep had 2 different potential game-winning drives, which culminated in missed FGs by Akers. But that's immaterial to me. I do understand what you're saying. Essentially, you're saying Kaep isn't a good enough game manager, to eek out a victory in a 13-10 game... where's Alex Smith when you need him

2008 NC State Spring Game--we had three QBs competing for the starting job. Our defense had proven OK, but Our offense was anemic and we needed someone to come in and save us since the departure of Phillip Rivers in 2004 . One QB, that started the previous year was legacy Daniel Evans, son of the Wolfpack great Johnny Evens; he had 12 TDs and 13 INTs the previous year and wasn't horrible, but wasn't that good either. The next was Nebraska transfer Harrison Beck, who was interception-prone the previous year, but had the goods to be a savior of NC State--or so we thought. Enter a small Redshirt Freshman that was on nobody's radar---a two star recruit from Fayettville who was recruited to play baseball and football with a good record in High School and a great attitude, but destined to be a back-up in Div. I. You know who I'm talkin about. He didn't start the spring game, but as soon as he stepped onto the field and made his first completion, you could tell he was the best QB we had. The rest is history...started for three years and graduated from NC State before transferring to Wisconsin his final year of eligibility after he missed spring practice and we stupidly let him go. I've been confident he'd be a pro-bowler ever since.

I've got to pick the New England game because I can remember sitting there halfway through the fourth quarter when we were down 23-10 and I just KNEW we didn't have a prayer of coming back to win that game. I hadn't been that certain that we were going to lose a game since Jim Mora was coach. And then Wilson put together that amazing comeback and my jaw just dropped.
