Great in-depth analysis of the last game against the Cards on some of the defensive woes from an X's an O's standpoint-while Norton is to blame on some of the aspect, I found out a lot of it was just mistakes and not being disciplined-especially in the secondary.

Jamal Adams' groin injury, Bruce Irvin lost for the season, failure to sign Clowney.

That doesn't even come close to making sense. So anyone but those guys are a lost cause?

Clowney wanted almost $20 million per year.....lol with only 3 sacks last year do you think he’s worth almost as much as Khalil Mack or Aaron Donald??? Imo He’s not even close

Unwillingness to give up big plays.

Even though when you have a high powered offense, having a defense that is more likely to give up big plays occasionally is actually better than having a defense that allows a team to consistently march down the field in medium length chunks.

Giving up a big plays and TDs is fine as long as you are beating their scoring pace. But a defense that allows teams to consistently march WHILE burning clock is far worse because it burns your own clock down.

Injuries. Too many starters out.
They gave up 970 yards in the first two games injury free with Irvin and Adams playing

I will say I think it has A LOT to do with communication within the secondary and everyone staying on their assignments-if you've noticed, there has been what feels like guys constantly rotating into the secondary Blair, Neal, DJ Reed, Amadi. One thing that made the LOB so good is they always communicated and knew their assignments because they played several games together-there hasn't been much consistency with the injuries in the secondary.

A lot of the poor yards given up statistics come from us playing prevent when up multiple scores late in games. This D is better than the statistics show and our PPG defensive rank is much higher than our yards given up.

The defense was almost as terrible with Clowney last year. Other than that first 49er game, he didn't make that big of an impact.

What the heck happens late in the game when up by more than a score? Not just pass rush, suddenly guys are wide open down field. Not ideal but it's not bad if you are forcing teams to get 5-10 yards at a time, but they're giving up huge chunk plays

We pull our guys way back into prevent to stop big plays, leaving them wide open in the middle of the field for big chunks. We have been doing this the entire Carrol era. It killed us in the Falcons divisional playoff game in 13 on the final drive where they got a winning FG.

That was 2012 but yes you are correct. I was so pissed we let the Falcons walk down the field in less than 40 seconds.

I make a motion our FO officially bans prevent defense by the Seahawks (which sometimes seems like our base scheme). Either our guys misunderstand the intent or simply do not know how to play it. Only thing it prevents is our D from making plays. Let's get aggressive and dictate instead of waiting for whatever happens to happen then try to keep it from being worse.
there are blades of grass all over the field, not just down by the goal line.

It was the 2012-13 season. The game was played in 2013.
