No real disagreements with the position. 3 playoff wins in SIX years is enough for me.

I'd wager that if our 2nd string players showed better against other team's number 1's this preseason, this poll wouldn't exist.

Pete Carroll is 100 - 59 and 1with 2 superb owl appearance and 1 win. We were 12-4 last year with albeit an unceremoniously and underachieving exit early in the playoffs. A loss however that in my opinion represented a 'come to jesus' moment and changes that will hopefully shed some light on why we've been consistently far above average, but short of great.

His mantra's of always competing, high tempo, scripted 'turnover Tuesday, etc' practices have been copied across the league. His coaches,pilfered by top teams. Defensive strategy, replicated over and over by multiple teams.. And yet almost from the beginning there's been the perennial calling for his head, with each of his successes somehow attributed to someone else, whether the qb HE SELECTED, or similarly, the defensive players he drafted and then built into one of the best defenses of all time... while, btw the media and so called experts were calling him insane and out of touch for his unorthodox drafts and personnel moves. We have never won more than with Pete. In fact, few teams in the history of the league can point to a period of success remotely close to what he's brought.

But sure, let's talk about how quickly we can run him out of town and replace him with that dynamite proven dude who will obviously just get it far better than Pete.

It's about as silly as those who call for Russ's head and wonder how much better we'd be if we had 'someone better' slinging the rock .

We are blessed with an all time franchise , and nfl great coach, front office , qb, lb's, safety - and thats current day roster. Before that, we bid fairwell to more all time greats at safety, d line and RB. All assembled by this coach and this Front Office.

But yeah, let's ponder how much better it would be without them. Or how short we can make the slide before we kick him out the door.

Until that happens, a break from him probably leads to a losing team for some while. Not just for coaching reasons - he's more than that to the organization. Culture is important, and the culture is all Pete.

Culture is guys like Dunlap and Adams wanting to play for Seattle. Make no mistake, players want to play for Seattle because of the culture Pete has built.

Back to the original question, the defense has to be historically bad or bottom-ranked, with no improvement, and no changes made in the offseason. Pete's bread and butter is defense. If he can't deliver a top ranked defense this year, and certain DCs are not let go, then his time is past.

Don't want him fired at all. Would like a bit of a return to the 'always compete' school - but I think that's kinda dead now.

Getting rid of a HC is easy. Finding a top 4 HC to replace him is the problem. When the HC you're getting rid of is a top 10 HC it just amplifies the risk.

As long as Pete and Wilson are here - we will be going to the Wild Card playoff game. We will likely win the playoff games against other wildcards and lose to whatever division playoff team we play.

It isn't another SB. But we already have a SB. Would love to see us make a conference game since that SB loss, but that is not in the cards. (And likely isn't a high enough probability to even consider.)

- If you are tired of going to playoff games but not going any farther, you fire Pete.

- If Wilson leaves, you fire Pete.

- If Pete drives off Wilson, you fire Pete.

Because if Wilson leaves, it is over. You might as well just go full rebuild then.
(Do we even have the kind of owner that can do a rebuild successfully?)

Getting rid of Pete (unless by some magic formula you both keep Wilson and get a great, accomplished, offensively focused head coach to replace Pete) means that you won't be attending any more playoff games for a while. You might even become terrible for a long time.

This is almost like getting rid of George Karl. Sure - you stop underperforming in the playoffs because you no longer end up going.

The wildcard is Wilson.

As long as we have Wilson, we probably have a chance. And Wilson with an offensive-focused coach probably takes the team deeper in the playoffs. So if it comes down to keeping Pete or keeping Wilson, you HAVE to get rid of Pete. Because Pete would be borderline worthless without Wilson, whereas Wilson would have a good chance of still keeping this team dangerous.

Pete isn't going anywhere regardless of the results for the next 2 years.

He has posted winning records for a decade and just signed an extension, so if he were to have a losing season, he would get another year if not more. Jodi isn't firing Pete anytime soon.

The question is literally what would it take for you to want him fired. It’s not the Should he be fired poll. It looks like you are the I will NEVER want him fired train. It just an opinion and all will vary.

So reverse the question, and ask "What would it take for Pete to be off your perennial hot seat?"

1) SB or bust? Ok then, by that logic, fire 31 coaches
2) NFC Championship? Ok then fire 30 other head coaches
3) Divisional Win? Ok then, fire 28 other head coaches
4) NFC West Championship? We just won the west in arguably the toughest division in football.

This is not really a "what have you done for me lately" question.

But rather a question of - How can fans temper their expectations according to reality?

Furthermore, judging a HC based on an elimination scenario is kind of silly. Say a team goes 17-0, but loses in the playoffs in part due to a QB throwing a pick six, or key starters getting injured? You see, things don't happen in a vacuum. It's the ultimate team game, and context is important here.

As is, Pete is nowhere near the hot seat right now, despite some fans needing a "bad guy" to validate their angst and outlook on things.
