Sadly, it will probably take a blow to Mahomes for Wilson to win MVP this year, because shiny new toys are the status quo.

Four of the past six MVPs (Brady, Ryan, Rodgers, Manning) were older than Russ is now. I wouldn't call "shiny new toys" the status quo just because Mahomes won it last year after posting absurd numbers.

I don't disagree with you, but do you really think the fact that Mahomes won last year doesn't play a huge part in him winning this year?

Edit: Even after his last loss, people are still considering him one of (if not THE) front-runner as a QB

Huh?

When this conversation began, it probably had to do with the fact that we was still putting up record production.

That has failed off significantly the last couple of games, hence the reason why Wilson is now a national talking point.

It doesn't really matter, the media is still aboard the Mahomes hype train for the most part and Wilson (naturally) is over-looked and ignored. I'd love to be proven wrong and eat crow.

I think Russ could win if a couple things happen;

1. We have an insane season, I'm talking 14-2 or 13-3 and Russell continues to go nuts with his TD/Int and QBR.

2. Guys like Rodgers, Mahomes, etc drop off and those teams don't have a very good year, or less than expected type of year.

I just don't think Russell will ever win MVP without the gawdy 50-60 TD's and 5,000 yard type of years that Mahomes is on pace for. It shouldn't be that way, we'd probably be 1-4 without Russell right now. If that's not the definition of "MVP," I don't know what is.

MCcaffery is gonna get some votes if he keeps it up. He is going off this year.

You're an idiot if you think he's better than Carson. ~ this board

That statement says more about you than it does about my statement about Mccaffery getting votes.

So I am nto going to say Carson is Better than McCaffery. I think they are both good in their systems. That said He will not get as many votes as you think.

I never even mentioned Carson so I am not sure where that even came from. If I do think player A is better than player B, facts dont even come into play. its just an opinion and nothing i am going to get into an extended argument over or call someone an idiot over their choice. You can be a fan of Mahones or Mccaffery and it has nothing to do with the Seahawks

I do think Mccaffery will get some votes. I never mentioned a number or percentage. Alot of press is discussing it. I read and heard that Wilson has never recieved an MVP vote, so who knows

I would be ecstatic and overjoyed for this to happen. Even at my own expense, I have so much love for the Seahawks that I'd be happy to be proven wrong for my home team to be recognized for the amazing players that they are.

Mahomes looked pretty human last night. Albeit he's injured, but it does open the door a bit more for Russ.

Awful lot of football yet to play.

Okay lets look at it between Mahomess and Wilson. Both teams have the same record.

Mahomes (measn rank)

1831 yards (1), 128/195 attempts, 65.6 CMP%(15), 9.4 YPA(2), 11 tds(2), 0 ints(1), 114.7 Qb rating(3), Rushing 81 yards rushing, 0 tds

Wilson
1409 (7), 114/156 attempts, 73.1 CMP%(2), 9.0 ypa(3), 12tds (1), o ints (1), 126.3 qb rating(1), Rushing 120 yards, 2 tds

So Mahomes leads in attempts, yards, and YPA
Wilson leads in CMP%, TDs, TD/INT, Qb rating, Rushing yards, and rushing tds.

Mahomes is top 10 in every category but CMP %
Wilson is top 10 in every category

Of course this can change

but as of now Wilson is in the lead.

To win MVP Wilson needs to be in the top 2 or 3 in volume stats and the Seahawks need to both win the division and at least make it to the championship round.

MVP has never been about efficiency stats. It has always been about volume stats, and for better or for worse MVPs can only come from dominant teams.

Wrong!!

In 2015 Cam Newton won MVP at 16th in passing yards 3800, 35TD's 10 int's 99.4 PR.

Not even close to a requirement.

I really believe Wilson should have won that year. That 2nd half season was truly amazing but the media already fell in love w/ the Panthers & Cam Newton dabbing...

Wilson had 4,000+ yrds, 68%Comp, 34TDs, 8int, 110PR.

No Lynch, No Graham.

Wilson is going to have to have a really big primetime, i mean big. Like 6TD big against hopefully the 49ers or the Rams rematch game.

PM is human and good defenses show you why..He is not seriously
hurt so don't use that as an excuse..RW plays hurt many times.
As much as PM passes..He is going to get slammed that is the price
you pay trying to pass most of the time.

Shoot, any of those 3 are worthy. I hate that McCaffrey is on the Panthers. He is a flat out beast.
But can you imagine Russ w/all those weapons in KC? Dayum

The last time RW was brought up for the MVP conversation, he had a game or two where he played like garbage, or least NOT MVP material. Mahomes finally had a game (despite injury) where he did not look MVP material and I'm sure that's going to continue moving forward for at least another game. RW needs to continue playing like he did in this Rams game in wins AND LOSSES. He needs to be able to pass effectively no matter the pressure, because we as fans will point to a bad day for RW as "look at the O-Line he has no time" but the MVP committee is just going to look at stats and if he wasn't effective by the numbers for that game (despite the defense of other team) they wont' care.

This

Only part of this is the "LOSSES" part. IMO if Russell has any chance at winning the MVP, we've got to go 13-3 or 14-2, win the NFC west and get the #1 seed type of year.

If this is another 10-6, or even 11-5 type of year, no way Russell wins a MVP, even if he continues to play out of his mind.

Still nearly 650 yards passing and another 70 rushing between those two games though, and in one of them, his team still scored 34 points and won on the road; they were just running it in when they got near the end zone (3 rushing TDs). It has been a mortal stretch by his standards, but it's not like he has been Baker Mayfield out there either.
