I suspect you will find it will tip the scale towards Russ this week. The NFL media is by nature reactionary.

Mahomes has had back to back average games. Russ has been consistently excellent.

That is getting noticed.

Nope. Even the announcers had excuses, oline. He seemed hurt. Etc.

Wait a minute, arent those the same excuses weve been offering for Russ? But they arent allowable for someone else?

MCcaffery is gonna get some votes if he keeps it up. He is going off this year.

That statement says more about you than it does about my statement about Mccaffery getting votes.

To win MVP Wilson needs to be in the top 2 or 3 in volume stats and the Seahawks need to both win the division and at least make it to the championship round.

MVP has never been about efficiency stats. It has always been about volume stats, and for better or for worse MVPs can only come from dominant teams.

Most would not except them for Wilson but the point is even as bad as KCs oline might be Wilson's was worse and yet he still performed well. We have seen a vulnerability in Mahomes. He needs a good oline. Thats okay most Qbs do, and he is young enough to learn how to work without a great oline.

So I am nto going to say Carson is Better than McCaffery. I think they are both good in their systems. That said He will not get as many votes as you think.

well for one the voting is before the playoffs. 2 I dont agree he needs to be top 2 or 3 in volume stats at all. if he is first in QB rating, TD/int, top 5 in compt%, Tds, and we win he will win. People are starting to talk about efficiency alot more now. There was a discussion on ESPN about it, basically which is better

500 pass attempts 4500 yardds 25 tds, 10 ints OR 350 pass attempts, 3500 yards, 25 tds and 0 ints. Everyone said the lower yards becaue they did as much or more with less. So its starting to come around. They also talked about talent around the Qb and that was a huge debate, and in th eend the talent around the QB matters, adn that a Qb doing great with less talent is more valuable than one doign great with more talent around them. FYI 2 of the people are MVP voters.

Wrong!!

In 2015 Cam Newton won MVP at 16th in passing yards 3800, 35TD's 10 int's 99.4 PR.

Not even close to a requirement.

It's sad that volume stats are so over-rated. A franchise QB has two jobs: Score TD's and Don't throw INT's.
That's basically it. Being great in the Redzone is what separates the greats from the managers. In today's NFL, even game managers can be great between the 20's. No one's allowed to touch them or their receivers. But when the windows tighten and the pressure is on, can you get the ball in the endzone?

So every MVP discussion should begin with "How many TD's did you throw and/or run for?" and end with "How many times did you turn the ball over?" I want the guy with the volume TD's and the big TD/INT ration playing for my team. Yards are a meaningless measure. Plenty of 400+ yd games by losing QB's.

Cam also added 600 yards and 10 TDs rushing. 45 combined TDs isn't high volume? And he led his team to a 15-1 record.

And that's still the closest thing to an exception.

That being said Russell Wilson is the only QB that is top 10 in every major category: completion percentage (2), Total Yds (7), TD's (1), INT's (1), QB rating (1). If he maintains that, then you'd have to be brain dead not to throw him the MVP award.

You beat me to it.

That's nearly 4500 total yards, 45 total TDs, and a 15-1 record, and even with those yards and TDs I'd bet that it was the 15-1 record that sealed the deal.

What he needs is yards. More than he is going to get.

Disagree if he does not have yards but has mos everything else it will still be enough.

Also #1 in Qb rating, and then add in 2 more tds running and another nearly 200 yards.

Sadly, it will probably take a blow to Mahomes for Wilson to win MVP this year, because shiny new toys are the status quo. The only other person outside of QB to challenge Wilson is McCaffrey

Four of the past six MVPs (Brady, Ryan, Rodgers, Manning) were older than Russ is now. I wouldn't call "shiny new toys" the status quo just because Mahomes won it last year after posting absurd numbers.
