What will it take to get Verse?

The Browns turning around and trading Verse to Seattle is absolute theater for the NFL.

Seattle would give up alot though and we actually don’t need to do so.

As long as we have a rotation that includes Seahawks Legend, Byron Murphy, Seattle will wreck offensive lines.

Just ask Sean McVay how good Byron Murphy is.

Yup. Hypothetically, if the Rams had decided to make Verse available for trade before the draft, what do you think the asking price would have been? I'm guessing 2 first rounders. Verse was the key to the whole thing.

I've thought about that because it helps to really quantify the cost of this move. I'm thinking it'd have to be two firsts as well given his age, position, and production. It might even be something like two firsts and a fourth, really.

It's not nobody wants Hall, it's that his value until a few minutes ago was next to nothing. Solid player but not a great deal of production, final year of his contract. The value just isn't there to get what they are worth in those situations.

Now that he's extended and it's a good, cheap deal compared to his peers. multiple years of club control adds tremendous value as opposed to someone hitting the market after this season.

I don't think Walker fits near as well in KC as he did here. I doubt Andy Reid is going to start putting Pat under center 80% of the time in order to boost their run game.

For a SB contender, it's probably two firsts and maybe mid round pick for Verse. People have to remember he's a player they have no reason to trade away and your trade offer is there to give them one. Personally, I think Schneider is the last GM that should be saying "F them picks."

Verse would be great but the Seahawks don't need him. They did just fine last season without the likes of Verse and Garrett on the team.

Walker is going to do a ton of damage on screens. Nobody runs screen game better than Reid. Walker will be an open space a lot on passes

It's a fun idea but the Browns GM might get GM of the year if he got 2 first round picks for Verse.

That means he traded Miles for 3 first round picks, a 2nd round pick and a 3rd.

When was the last time a player who is 30+ years old traded for that much capital? Never happened and will never happen again.

The Max Crosby thing I agree with. Sounds far fetched but if the raiders start sucking again, Kubiak is there.
I'm sure him and most of (if not all) the seahawks front office will stay in touch.
My gut feeling is John Schneider would make a mid season move when repeat is banging on the doors

I don't get attached to a late first round pick. Verse for a late round pick would be a steal.

True, it would be the best case scenario for this edge group for at least the next 3 years. Nwosu and Fowler are UFAs after this season. Lawrence probably retires. Verse and Hall would be more than solid as the 1-2, and it doesn’t force the team to scramble to fill the position out of necessity.

Before was thinking a 2nd, 3rd*, and 5th* would be enough.

Plus, Pritchett, Knight, (quick look at their roster, Browns could use some competition and depth at those positions) and Ivey (think he’d could make some real noise with better opportunity, and out of our bubble edges he has the highest floor and probably has the strength and motor to contribute right away)


With Pritchett gone it just opens up a spot for guys like Fuller and Dansby to compete and the ability to keep the veteran Igby without having to make tough decisions who I think could be sneaky good.

With Knight gone, then yeah, go and get Bobby Wagner, I think he’d be phenomenal on Macdonald’s defense: fits the MOB culture like a glove, run defense is still more than solid, while being suitable than anything we got in short yardage situations and especially since he’s become a more accomplished pass-rusher the last 4 years.

And it still leaves us with 1-2 of O’Toole, Hubbard, and Jones, JR that we can stash on the PS and develop. They imo have higher athletic ceilings than Ivey but still need more development physically, mentally, or both. And if you can get one of them to at least be solid enough as a rotational player within a year then youd have at least three edges that you can build off of and that makes it much easier than just having Hall. And you can just re-sign one of Nwosu or Fowler or both and maybe push the issue further down if nothing aligns in your favor via the draft or free agency.

Basically getting Verse would be the best case scenario of sustainability without having to break the bank and gives you at least two years and a 5th year option im the 3rd to find and develop the next wave.
