What did you expect this year?

I can't get onboard with this team feeling like 2011 or the early Pete days with the QB position being in such limbo.

Yeah, maybe the beginning of 2012 for a lot of fans. After we drafted Russ and he beat out Flynn. I started getting that feeling mid 2011 personally. We did have Marshawn already and things felt like we were on the right track to me. Defensively it feels that way for me now, but not offensively. I feel like that could go absolutely any way at this point.

This is where I am at right now. I remember the day Pete got hired. I remember having zero doubt that we would run the ball and play great defense.

I probably didn't communicate my thought there to well. I wasn't sure about PC that early on. It was later for me. Just that feeling when you just knew we were on the right track though was my point. Specific timing was probably a bit different for anyone.

And actually after think about more, maybe mid 2011 IS a good parallel. The defense after mid 2011 was keeping us in games and coming around but we still didn't have a long term answer at QB. If Russ didn't work out there's no telling how the rest of that history would have played out for the PC era. I doubt Flynn would have taken us to the promised land despite the great defense.

Look, I get that everyone wants to see the team win games right off the bat for a new coaching staff, but you need to look at the big picture. They were handed a terrible offensive line and lost maybe their best player on that line in Abe Lucas who likely will never play again. On the defensive side of the ball, they had no returning inside linebackers, an average at best defensive line, and still somewhat unproven outside linebackers. Even at the safety and corner positions, there were a lot of questions.

People are asking for the impossible right now, which is an entirely new coaching staff with an overall average to below average roster to come in and win consistently. It ain’t gonna happen. The coaching staff needs at least two years to turn the roster before anyone here should demand major improvement. In two years from now, if the same crap is being displayed on the field, then by all means fire away. In the meantime, don’t expect much, and let them do what they have to do which unfortunately takes time.

Now go grab a beer and relax!
Yes, I’m replying to my original post from the beginning of October. Other than the shock of a Lucas coming back in and playing, it’s pretty much held true and they are starting to churn the roster such as getting a great new linebacker. Give it two years and then if they are underperforming, fire away. In the meantime, including next season, don’t expect anything great.

Replying to your original post it all depends on what you believe led to PC's firing. My theory is, he felt they were close and wanted to keep running it back and JA had seen enough. Possibly giving him an ultimatum to make changes to his staff and he refused. If that is the case, we are on schedule or even ahead.

People that report on the team believe that the JA and whoever else thought that the roster was underperforming. If that is true, this season was a failure.

Not necessarily. If they thought the roster was under performing, making a change in the entire coaching staff, they understand it will take time for the new system to take place. I don’t care what anyone says, this season absolutely beats what we’ve seen the last three years before from the Seahawks.

Less than what we got. I thought we'd look every bit the rebuilding first year HC and staff team. What Macdonald has done with carrols band of misfits is short of a miracle. Very much optimistic about this coaching staff moving forward.

Mac has quietly flown under the radar for a solid first year as a HC. Harbaugh just stole his thunder but that is how it shakes out.

Every win matters for a first year HC like Mac if he wants to put in place a culture change. Year 2 is going to be really exciting to see as more talent comes into the fold that fits into MM mindset and culture change.

I think going 10-7, missing the playoffs and then cutting some expensive dead weight while fixing the OL will be good for the Hawks moving forward.
There is a feeling that some of the young cigar smokers have a bit of an inflated view of their worth/accomplishments.
MM is just getting started and we are far from being a seasoned team with the will, mindset & professionalism to plow our way to a SB.
We are not ready yet and losing in the first round won't help our cause much.

I expected the team to be 500. I hoped the Line would start to gel and the running game would flourish. I had hopes that DK and JSN would emerge as an upcoming threat but needing a better QB to get the ball around but Geno to be serviceable. The Defense has had bright spots, but I have been let down.

I expected the offense to be solid and the defense to gel about halfway through the year. I did not expect the offense to regress through the year but they absolutely did. Oddly, I think the offensive line play improved after the bye, but Geno in particular regressed, as he seems to do at the end of every year. And I'm a Geno fan.

I figured 10-7 or maybe even 11-6. Then again, I expected the whiners to win the division after fighting off our late season surge so that's what my predictions are worth. :p

I figured 7 wins to 9 tops. I like the coaching, they are young and will be better. MM must be the right coach for the former Giant, he plays like a true stud. I don't remember him being this good, but NY Giants aren't broadcast much on the West Coach.

I had us at 9 or 10 wins and in the playoffs. When I think of what I was hearing about this team going into the season here's are 2 reasons I heard that would keep this team out of the playoffs, for those predicting that:
-Bad o-line
-Shake inside linebackers with no depth.

Up tp the Bills game game the worst case scenario played out and those 2 things were awful. Hats of to JS and MM for fixing the linebaker issue on the fly and turning things around. Some cause for hope with Lucas back and young guys (with growing pains) at C and RG who maybe can develop?

I think our defense looks better but we swapped that for bad offense. How many teams did we beat with a winning record? We were 3-6 at home. We lost to one of the worst teams in the league at home by two scores. It's easy to feel better about what we saw.
