I am all in on Sam Darnold. Unless he throws a red zone pick at any point. Then I'm going to capitalize the ever-loving excrement out of the "n" and "o" in his name. All fans must decide if a more middling QB is either elite or absolutely terrible. It is the way.

And that's fair.

I will not be pleased to say the least if he pulls a geno. (blech)

It was pretty well known in the NFL world that folks outside of Seattle looked at Geno more favorably than fans of the team did. Drew Lock has never shown any real ability to start consistently in the league, yet fans in Seattle saw the slightest glimmer of positive play from him as a reason he should get a chance to start.

Sam started in NY and flopped but NY is blamed for how bad he was.

Geno started in NY and flopped and it was proof he was never any good.

Geno never had to develop a pattern of 'losing games' to be labeled a failure in big moments. His first action in Seattle saw him almost bring us back against the Rams when Russ went down only to have his pass intercepted when Tyler got tripped on a PI and fell and the defender caught the ball exactly where our guy would have been. Geno wasn't given a pass then, nor was he the following week when we lost to the Steelers when the ball was knocked out of his hand in a collapsing pocket under pressure by the most feared pass rusher in the league.

Sam gets the ball knocked out of his hand on a potential game winning drive by one of the most feared defenders in the league and we lose the game, but it wasnt his fault.

Geno in relief duty when Russ went down in '21 puts on a passing clinic against the Jags (one of the worst team in the League) completing his first 15 passes and running a broken offense coordinated by a bust of an OC and it's passed off as a nothing burger because of the competition ( the Jags I think best the Bills or came close to it a few weeks later if I remember correctly).

Sam beats the worst team in the league in the Saints, plays a solid game, and is hailed for how high he ranks in several categories going into week 4.

Geno was getting MVP recognition in 22 and there was a large segment of fans who were saying 'hokd your horses .. he will 'return to form'.... Sam looks good for 3 weeks in Seattle and he 'might be our guy long term'.

Just saying, that's the reality of the temperature that was around Geno and his time as a Hawk. The double standard / half full / half empty thing isn't a fabrication. Some players pay more attention to fan opinion than others. Geno is the type to pay attention to it, to his detriment. It fuels him, and it holds him back. He no doubt felt it in Seattle.

One of the best things about him not being here is that for better or worse, this fanbase can now hopefully collectively turn the page on the Pete/Russ/ Geno era and just enjoy football without rooting interests in individual players dominating the discourse .
A lot of Geno’s interceptions were thrown to where the guy woulda been

Geno is playing in Vegas just like he did here. Lots of holding onto the ball and getting huge sacks, turnovers, and td's, and a lot of garbage time Stat padding

Geno is also still playing under a coach whose offensive line strategy includes drafting defensive linemen and converting them.

As for me I did not support Geno and am glad he is gone. I am glad Darnold is doing well and support him BUT wasn't happy the team picked the middle road of marginally improving the position instead of going with either a rookie on a long cheap contract OR a proven long term replacement. So not "Super Bowl now" and not "Super Bowl later" but "Let's stay at 9-8 a couple more years."

okay I have a couple of questions for you :

1.) Geno wanted OUT. Now who did you want the Seahawks to go after if not Darnold?

Rodgers? He'd be okay but he's not the long-term answer. Plus, he's a doosh so f*ck him.

You want Kirk Cousins instead? 😁

2.) You don't like Gray Zabel on this team? 'Cause that was the only way they were improving the OL (and the early returns show it was the RIGHT decision to make).

Besides, from where the Hawks were drafting, there wouldn't have been any QB-Rookie (that the Seahawks would want) on a long cheap contract based on whomever was available to draft.

Anyway, it's never "Super Bowl Now"....UNTIL IT HAPPENS.

Let's see what goes down this season.

First step is trying to win the division.

Next step is the playoffs and we go from there.

I have never seen these execs you speak ok. Nor do I ever recall anyone who has made a living objectively analyzing QB play in the media, online, on TV networks or anywhere else put Geno in the 20s. I remember many a review stating 'the problem in Seattle is NOT GENO'. But maybe they just had a crush on the guy too. I also dont recall anyone on .net trying to make the case that he was a top 5 QB. I remember very clearly when folks had him at near top 9 or 10 when he actually was and called him top 12 to 15 when he was that (and was paid EXACTLY at that level by ownership).

The drum beat was much louder for him being well below average when until last year, he clearly was not that.

But that's neither here nor there. Will be interesting how half empty v half full the glass is when Sam encounters challenges, throws game losing INTs and the luster wears off. And that's not at all me predicting anything. I hope to hell he can get the team as far as it's capable of going. Just a comment on the shift in attitude already evident toward him v Geno. ... ' it was a bad play call...', ' it was a bad block', etc. it's cool though. Just smells like a bit of projection has been going on around here for a bit.

God Bless JohJohn63
It's done every year by Sando on ESPN and it's hugely popular. Im going to trust the guys who get paid to do this for a living over social media accounts. Geno is nowhere near where you claim the league is rating him at while here or elsewhere. I don't want to go back and forth over it because we all beat it to death and who cares at this point. I'm pulling for Darnold

I’m pulling for Darnold too, and his character makes it even easier. I am kinda over debating with some guys about what geno was or is or isn’t, but I’ll never get tired of laughing when he does more stupid stuff…

Yeah there’s a lot of false citation work on this site. I think the knocks on Geno during his time here were mostly unwarranted overreactions to either a single case where he pissed a particular fan off with a mistake or their inability to use the available data to help make a fair judgment of him. Bias runs rampant here.

With that said he’s looked on and off in LV and Sam looked rough week one but has picked it up the last two weeks. I see Geno on the down and Sam on the up, personally.

Both are going to make mistakes as do all other players at the position. Geno doesn’t walk on water, but I feel he had to do that here or get called trash.
I don't disagree. But it's even in that fact that my point is made.

When Geno was here, we had one of the worst o lines, defenses and running games in the league. Those who commented that citing that as a contributing reason as to why a QB would struggle were accused of blind defense. Or if they acknowledged the issue, never provided any input as to how much a QB might struggle when strapped with units that ranked in the bottom 3 in the league.

Sam has the benefit of all of those pieces that have been absent for years and thank God he does because it's been lackingfar too long. Yet the elevation of Sam over Geno in the Sam V Geno debate, like the Russ v Geno debate before it ignores that fact.

But the Geno v Russ, Sam or whoever else debate is dumb to begin with and born out of a desire to want 'ones 'guy' to succeed above all else. It's tribalism at it's worse. Sure, sports itself is tribal by nature, so it's to be expected. The low part comes from one side insisting that because they feel a certain way, that others do.

It's not different really than the S Alexander debate in Lynch's his early years around who was better. If you made the argument that Alexander, despite his stats, wasn't as great a RB as those numbers indicated, you ran the risk of being called a hater. Why? Because you were 'bad talking' another fans favorite player or contradicting a fan who chose to just hold up the numbers as evidence of greatness at the end of the day. The o line's contribution mattered little. The hall of fame HC credentials mattered less. All that mattered were the numbers. Similar thing happening now. It's just the climate in which it all happens and the attacking nature of those who hold their positions has gotten worse.

Whatever I thought about Alexander V Lynch, Russ vs whoever and Geno vs Sam (I don't even see that as a necessary thing) has no bearing on who I like as a player. I don't fan for one guy over another and my allegiance is to the team. I loved C Warner and hated when he left. I loved D Fender and C Warren after they came along and carried us to wins. I loved Krieg, Hasselbeck and Russ all for what they individually did. I appreciate Geno for what he did and I am hopeful that Sam continues to succeed. Success is all that matters but success is predicated on more than just a players own individual ability even when we try to make it just an argument about Jim vs Joe.

Players move teams…it happens. But, if you talk ‘ish about your old team (Seattle in our cases), I’m going to disown you and actually delegate a little bit of energy to ‘hatin.

I liked Geno when he was here. Even with his deficiencies. I loved his comeback story.

But, if you force yourself out or say things like ‘…it didn’t feel like the right fit’….any subliminal type jab at the Hawks, it’s open fire.

Guys such as Marshawn, Wagz, Tyler, etc…will always be welcome.

Russ? Geno? See-ya!

Darnold will improve as the conditions surrounding him improve. That is the case with any QB. I like Darnold just fine. For now. But I think the guy tuning up in the wings just might have what it takes to take us where we want to go.
