We survived a Mike Carey game.

PI calls should be like 10 yards from scrimmage awarded to offense and automatic first down. Get rid of these 50 yard penalties at spot of foul because the corner used an arm bar on the receiver.

It's not that we never bitch about the officiating. Of course we do. All fans do. But the fact that we have a Mike Carey thread is telling.

Name another official that gets routine mention here. Sure, you can go back a few years and talk about 05 and Bill Levy.

But recently? Just Carey.

I also was very worried when I saw it was Carey. You know something is very very very wrong when several people that do not know each other all start to feel sick when they see this d/(k's face. I don't think we are the only team he wants to rape though... I've seen other games and thought to myself "wish the replacement refs were in there".

True enough about the replacement refs. They may have been incompetant (even hillariously incompetant at times), but at least when they butchered calls, they were equal opportunity butchers (equally likely to hose both teams).

I check footballzebras.com every week on Thursdays to see who our officiating assignment is, purely with the intention of seeing whether our officiating assignment is "Mike Carey" or "not Mike Carey." Not even exaggerating. I was relieved that we got him against Tampa since I figured it wouldn't matter, and even after that awful DPI I was never going to put this game on the officials, but it was definitely a source of stress in a close game that this clown got to preside over the game.

For what it's worth I do think he made a bad call in our favor on the replay review of the Wilson-to-Lockette pass. Just a five yard swing but still. I'm used to him just doing crap like this to us all game long:

His worst call might have been when he swallowed his whistle after Wilson took a knee to set up FG in OT. Seriously. The two side judges are waving the play dead and he lets Tampa get a cheap shot on Wilson. I'm convinced that asshole has it out for us.

What the h*ll was that? We did not need a penalty from that but why one was not called is beyond me.

The ET PI looked like it was pre-determined that the flag flies for any time a Hawk DB is even close to a Buc receiver. Ridiculous, NFL should investigate obvious game altering wrong calls like that.

I just got through watching that Earl Thomas "Pass Interference" call. I watched it and then re-watched it a couple of times more. Not only is that not Pass Interference ... but if I were a defensive backs coach, how Thomas defended and played the ball on that play is exactly how I would TEACH my safeties to play. I would use that film clip right there as a textbook example of exactly how to do it. If there was a way for Pete to throw a challenge flag on that one ... he'd have won.

If you still needed proof that Carey is crooked, that call against Kam right there proves it.....

I also think it says something about the growth of this team that they are overcoming and winning games with

That Kam Chancellor hit on Vernon Davis for example, clean hit, flag thrown.

That PI call contradicted that entirely.

They wanted ET to just get out of the way on that play. Horrible, horrible, horrible. The fact that it led to the Bucs 1st TD and gave them huge momentum only made it worse.

Make no mistake folks, this IS indeed how it's going to be unless we play someone like Cincy or maybe K.C. where the NFL has no (marketing) investment in the opposition. Luck and the Colts? We'll be on the short end of the officiating. Manning and the Donkeys? Um, you already know. Brady and the Patriots? Same deal. This why I'm rooting hard for Cincy this year.

Of all the bad crew in the NFL, the Carey crew is easily the most incompetent. the Lockette "catch" is not the first time I have seen Carey not overturn a plainly obvious call. The line judge is just plain incompetent at calling offsides. It is a horrible crew.

You are completely correct. He took a knee, made a motion to MC and he still let Russell get hit. I don't like him at all.

What do you have to do to show you down? Get in the fetal position? He would probably throw a flag for taunting then..
