Has anyone got video of the ET PI?

Someone mentioned the Lockete "catch". It makes me wonder if Carey maybe is not biased but just plain incompetent?

He is incompetent. I remember the Stealers complaining about a penalty called against their DE Brett Keisel who always celebrates his sack by doing this ridiculous going down to one knee and shooting an arrow motion. Carey is the only official who has ever called that a penalty, which by rule is a penalty, but no one calls it. I believe that was on a game ending drive that the Stealers were trying to prevent a winning score.

As a sidebar, why is going to the ground in celebration a penalty in the first place? It doesn't make sense to me. However, I believe we would have benefited twice if it had been called against the Rams on a pair of their sack celebrations.

The guy is a complete moron. I was actually telling my brother and my wife how incompetent this clown is during the game. The NFL definitely needs to do something about him and some of these other refs who feel they have to make a name for themselves. The NFL hasn't helped matters when we know these refs as much as the players. Mike Carey obviously loves the camera. His robotic movements when announcing penalties drives me nuts. His crew was definitely trying to make things more difficult for the Hawks. It doesn't matter what the Hawks do, they will never get the respect they deserve. They could win the Super Bowl and the experts will give excuses as to why they did rather than giving these guys credit. Just like all the road wins, no credit for winning on the road, now it is they play inferior teams etc.

I wish I had the time and knowledge to go through our games and make a video/montage of all the bad calls this year. Then separately do one of Mike Carry in every game he has officiated for us since 2005. Post it on youtube and send a copy to Paul Allen and the NFL.

For the record. Mike Carry was awarded the officiating job in last years super bowl which is an honor bestowed upon what the league considers the best officiating crew. You figure it out how Carry is referred to as the best and Ed Hoculi (sp) is not even in the conversation. The only two officials names I know and for opposite reasons. Makes me wonder if Ed just isn't willing to help the NFL's parody cause.

Something I have kind of come to realize this year though is the NFL wants parody and good teams blowing out bad ones makes for boring TV and poor ratings. Most of these bad calls I have noticed are coming in the early part of the game and it often seems like the second half they either let the teams play or they provide some make up calls maybe trying and balance things out for the stat sheet.

I don't know if the NFL actually does have it's favorites or not but it sure does seem like it. Realistically you would probably have to go through every teams season and review all the calls. 9er fans complain like there is no tomorrow and I have yet to see them get hosed on a call but I haven't watched every game so I might be missing some. Lately it seems like the Colts are getting huge amounts of help, just look at their last game against the Texans for another good example. I think everyone knows if a defender bowled over Manning or Brady the way the Tampe DE did Wilson after he had put his knee down and even held his hands up, that play would have been flagged, the player fined and even an removed from the remainder of the game wouldn't surprise anyone.

I do hate that the NFL hands fines out to players like they are candy but does absolutely nothing when an official makes game changing mistakes. Doesn't really seem fair. The officials should also be held accountable.

RichnHansom, check your sources. Jerome Boger was the head ref for the SB last year.

After reading through this thread, glad to hear I'm not the only one who thought Mike Carrey has it out for us.

What a terrible ref. I hate how much they can change the course of a game.

Thanks for the correction. Guess I was misinformed.

The smart money bets the Hawks to lose against the line when the preening f-hole is calling a game.

Six of one, half dozen of the other. Boger is as bad as Carey IMO, or very close anyway. You can put Walt Coleman in that group too.

Not even close. THe league told Boger to keep the hankies in the back pocket for the SB, and his crew only called the most egregious penalties. They let the defensive backs play rough.

Boger officiated because they knew they could trust him to call the game the way he was told. Which I actually find a bit disturbing.

I'll agree with you as it concerns the Super Bowl (and yes, that IS disturbing). My comments are more reflective of his regular season games. Sure would be nice if the Hawks DBs were allowed to be "rough" in the SB if our team gets there. Why do I feel that will be unlikely? XL* based paranoia?

In terms of Carey being the referee I totally cringe every time I see him. He calls the weakest of PI penalties either way so that I question whether his crew understands the rules. He also lets the QB get hammered and there has to be a mugging happen for a roughing the passer call. He missed more penalties than he called and called way too many.

I'm sure the team sent film to the league about some of the late and questionable hits on RW along with that totally ridiculous PI call on Thomas.

I hate seeing him as the referee and know he will not let the game be played. Sure hope we don't see him again this season.

Annnnnd as expected: Carroll heard back from NFL officials on the pass interference call that went against free safety Earl Thomas in last Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "It should not have been called," Carroll said. Thomas appeared to have picked off the pass from Bucs quarterback Mike Glennon on the play.

It's official: Mike Carey sucks.

In that same respect, What did you guys think of Jerry Markbright? Ed Hochuli? Are there any real non-biased referees out there besides the replacements? What if they put in the stars of the movie the "Replacements" in? What a fun game that would be.

Ed Hochuli (sp) is the best I have seen and not just with the Seahawks. He seems to care about getting the call correct much more than being the star of the show. He came out a couple years ago and apologized for a bad call publicly and seemingly on his own accord.

I'm sure there are others but for Seahawks fans Mike Carey is consistently screwing us in every single game with absolutely zero exception. He has earned his reputation. And obviously this game was no exception.

It would be amazing if there weren't at least a couple NFL referees that are straight up dirty and on the take. Refs get paid usually less than 100k a year to officiate games that involve many millions of gambling dollars changing hands.

It would be more of a conspiracy theory to say that all refs are clean.

They don't have to make a lot of obviously terrible calls to decide whether or not a team beats the spread. Just make sure every close call goes the way you need it, and once you've got the result you need, stop throwing flags.

Yeah, I don't like to think about this stuff either...

I also hate Mike Carey as an official, however a lot of the posters in this thread were around last season for the Packers game when a call exactly like this netted us a big gain. Sam Shields grabbed the bottom of Sidney Rice's jersey thus not allowing him to elevate and play the ball. John Gruden didn't see it and flipped out on the broadcast, but a few of us posters pointed it out and most agreed. ET did the same thing Shields did. Lets take a look:

PIComp zps4ce12755

It is the same exact deal, and once again the announcers failed to see the grabbing of the jersey that precipitated the flag. It was pass interference. At the very least it was defensive holding, but by the letter of the rule, this is interference.

Guess the NFL disagrees with you.

Along with every other human being still blessed with eyesight.
