I was thinking about this watching the Philly game last week. To me it's not even close we made the right pick. I know who sanchez would vote for. This is a great article for Witherspoon fans

Can't say for sure, but I personally wanted Carter. It all starts in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

A good CB helps shut down the passing game, but so does a dominant DT, and the DT also shuts down the run game.

A great defensive line makes it easier on all the other units, same with offensive line. When a team can't do anything on offense or defense the answer is usually a better line.

I loved Spoon in the draft process and I was elated when we selected him and given the fact we got Byron Murphy ll the following year proved we made the correct decision because there wasn't a DB in this year's draft that is as good as Spoon is and Murphy will be better than Carter in my opinion...

First off, we will never know so it doesn’t matter. Second, I love having Spoon and now Murphy (whom wouldn’t have been our pick if Carter was here)

We always hear complaints about wasted first round picks and Carter just might have been another one. We will never know but we do know that Pete can develop corners. Much higher chance for success there

I am so fn sick of this debate. First off, knowing what we knew at the time, it was a no brainer to pass on Carter. I'm not talking about his talent level, that was/is off the charts. The issue was everything outside of talent like IQ, maturity, priorities, personality. He interviewed badly, he had prior issues that were very serious and he just had buyer beware written all over him. Even if Carter was all world for the Eagles right now, which he isn't, passing on him at #4 was the right call at that time no matter who we selected instead.

Would we have taken Murphy if we had taken Carter? Probably not. Would we have signed Big Cat to the extention?

Witherspoon rocks. We will see.

Pete’s gone… you’re talking in your sleep again
What does Pete’s firing long after that draft have to do with anything. He was here when the pick was decided. The question is do we still think it was a better choice than Carter and since Pete was here it’s a 100% yes

Things would’ve looked a lot different had we selected Carter.

A lot of this conversation hinges on what’s already been stated. Would we have Big Cat? Certainly wouldn’t have selected Murphy.

Would we have took Verse? Who would be our corners?

Carter was passed on by quite a few teams…there were some red flags for sure. I don’t know if he would’ve had the same success on another squad. I think a lot of ex Bulldogs being in Philly really helped him out in the sense of staying out of trouble. That may not have been the case in Seattle.

I’m definitely happy (now) that we selected Spoon. He’s one of my three favorite Seahawks with JSN and DK being the others.

The addition of Williams and Murphy solidify the deal. It wouldn’t have looked the same had we drafted Carter.

Big dub imo.

It was just funny the way you said it, I know you know Pete’s not here… just sounds like you were referring to Pete still being a part of spoons development in present tense. I was being a smart ass

In that case compare Carter to Murphy.
I get it they weren't in the same draft but I'm glad the way it turned out that we got both Spoon and Murphy.

Man… so much of my wants to lock this thread.. this damn debate/question blah blah just doesn’t really contribute shit other than to piss people off, stir the pot, stomp around the “i told you so’s!” Or “”yup he sucks”

But I won’t instead .. I’ll just start throwing all the Spoon/Carter “did we pick the right right”/“who would you rather have drafted” threads into this one.
