Because he signed a 5 year deal and the Rams save $8 mil by cutting him. There’s still a dead cap hit of $7.5 mil for the Rams. Bobby was great but still a liability in middle coverage so I seriously doubt they sign him unless it’s a one year deal for the league minimum. As for Cody Barton he can take a hike. Might be the slowest white linebacker in the history of the NFL

Kidhawk said he's still better than 90% of the LB's out there, so you must be mistaken.

Is Bobby better than our bottom 3 in the league LB's? Yep, but that's not saying much. I think Hawk fans have their fan colored nostalgia glasses on if they still think he's a viable long term option at LB still.

One year option if we don't draft or sign a younger better LB? Sure, at the right price.

There are many reasons that teams and players part ways, but Wagner is still second team All-Pro. There were only 5 other Linebackers to be selected as All-Pro in the entire league: Fred Warner, Roquan Smith, Matt Milano, C J Mosley & Demario Davis.

This is a position of DIRE need and we have the chance to bring in a pretty healthy ALL-PRO player to fill the position. The fact that there is anyone who doesn't want to see it happen, no matter the contract price just blows my mind.

Yeah you lost me at "no matter the contract price."

I also think Bobby might have asked to be released. He probably doesn't want to hang around through another rebuild as the Rams shed big contracts for many of their major players and struggle to be a fringe playoff team the next couple of years.

Who is saying he's the long term answer? Nobody is saying that, at least not anyone with a lick of sense. We still need to draft defense and we need to draft front 7 defense as a priority. That doesn't mean that bringing back an All-Pro talent like Wagner who continues to play at a high level is a bad idea.

Maybe you should work on the comprehension. It says that people who won't bring him in no matter the contract price. This is aimed at those Hard No people out there who don't want him even at a reasonable contract price.

We obviously don't want to overpay him. This is why we cut him when he was making north of $16 million. He's not going to get that kind of money. I'd like to see him back signed to a reasonable contract. I don't want to blow the bank for him, but I think if he wants to work with the team to come back they can work out something that is viable for both parties.

As for not wanting to be around a rebuild, I agree, I don't think he does either. Of course this is a Seahawks team that made the playoffs even with that dreadful defense we had last year. That should improve with the draft and signing of a few key vets (maybe Wagner is one, maybe not, we'll have to see). If he thinks he improves the defense enough, then we wouldn't be looked at as a rebuild for him. The key here may just be keeping Geno.

If better, why “hard pass”?
Because he likely will not make that big of a difference if they play that same crap up front.
Plus he will be older and likely losing another step..We have to get younger and have someone who
can move side to side and back in coverage..

I'm not sure I understand the logic of a "hard pass" on a LB with 140 tackles and 6 sacks who played in every game last season. I can understand being concerned about the cost, but seriously, a hard pass?
My hard passs comes from the fact we won't be doing what the Rams did to cover for Wags
weakness..They did a great job of using what he does still have while we would make him look
old by asking him do things his body no longer can do..Did he ever have 6 sacks with Hawks?
He can tackle thats not the issue.. Drop Cover-no /can he go wide?No..

Our defense changed quite a bit after he left. There’s no way to predict what they would be able to do with him in the current defense. This just assumes Pete and co. can’t assess talent and use it properly. If the issue is the coaching staff can’t assess and use talent properly what makes you think bringing in younger guys is going to make them get used any better? Wagner is smart enough to run the defense on the field. He can make the needed adjustments to put himself in position to make the plays. If we have 4 linebackers and they choose to use Wagner as a regular cover guy then let’s put the blame where it belongs.

Hm...I wonder if this is a viable plan for LB, at least until Jordyn Brooks is back. Sign Wagner and run a three-safety look with Diggs, Neal, and Adams.

I would actually like to see him back but from Wagner's view, does Seattle fit the win now mode he's looking for? I'll throw out an early, unlikely prediction. Eagles have a couple of linebackers who are free agents. I wonder if he signs there.
Almost like a trade, then I can see the Hawks signing someone from there.

i think Bobby can still "bring it" and can act as a mentor to any rookie or free agents we add. For a one or two season contract, i would really hope for this.

Maybe Bobby can also be a future Linebacker Coach when he retires. If signed, he would be like a coach on the field, and I am pretty sure he would be an upgrade as a Linebacker Coach for the Seahawks.

At this stage of his career, Wagner wants some details-unknown-to-us combination of money and a chance to win a title. The salary cap is going to make it very difficult for the Eagles to offer either of these things to Wagner in 2023, as I described in this comment in another thread. (👈 that's a link)
