I'm gonna put this idea on hold until after the draft when free agency starts.

As of now? We certainly have a need for the MLB spot what with Brooks having a serious injury that may linger into pre-season, and maybe into the regular season.

But IMO Wagner's a VERY proud player that wouldn't hesitate to just retire if he doesn't get a free agent contract worthy of his caliber of play. Not sure slightly overpaying him for a one year deal makes sense, unless we're desperate during free agency.

Free agency starts before the draft.

March 15th, but the silly season usually doesn't start until after the draft when teams know their urgent needs.

So no thanks on Bobby until we know how bad our LB needs are after the draft.

If there’s real demand he will be signed somewhere before the draft.

If available post draft he’s by definition a non priority FA and is unlikely to land big money.

Maybe.

But sometimes vets like Bobby wait even up until training camp to decide, especially if they have multiple offers. They want to see where the best chance of winning is before jumping on an offer.

Obviously money is important, it always is. But don't be surprised if Wagner waits a while before signing with a team. There's no urgency for him.......and honestly? I don't see a team breaking the bank for him either.

When will Brooks even be available? I highly doubt he starts the season on the field. They need to be prepared for him being gone, maybe even for the first 3 or 4 games.

Truth. Guess we need to wait and see what Wagner would be willing to take and if the FO even pursues him.

Let's move forward, not backward. I love Bobby. I'm a USU Aggie alumnus. But he wasn't very good in 2021. And the Seahawk's cap situation isn't as rosey as many believe.

Money-wise, how much would we demand? How much of his contract will he see from the Rams, they're eating multiple years, so perhaps he'd sign here for a much-reduced rate, so he can finish where he started.
With our LB corps barren, he'd be a great asset for our D, and help with any youngsters we bring in via the draft and FA.

Yet is WAY BETTER than missed tackle Barton

I mean, you're right. But if you think Barton couldn't cover in space, check out some of Bobby's coverage the past couple of years. Woof.

But yes, Wagner even at his age is still better than both Barton and Brooks at diagnosing plays and line of scrimmage penetration.

Is that worth a one year band aid fix? Idk, probably not for what I assume is more than we're willing to pay.

Why do people say he wasn't good in 2021? Yes it was visible on the field that he made more mistakes than he had in the past, but his last season with us, he ended with a career high in tackles. Yes, a career high. He's still playing at an All-Pro Level (which IMO is much more telling than Pro Bowl level). We have gotten way too used to Bobby in his prime. Bobby Wagner today is still better than 90% of the linebackers out there.

Fair enough. Barton sucks.

Why did the Rams cut him then?

Because he signed a 5 year deal and the Rams save $8 mil by cutting him. There’s still a dead cap hit of $7.5 mil for the Rams. Bobby was great but still a liability in middle coverage so I seriously doubt they sign him unless it’s a one year deal for the league minimum. As for Cody Barton he can take a hike. Might be the slowest white linebacker in the history of the NFL

There are many reasons that teams and players part ways, but Wagner is still second team All-Pro. There were only 5 other Linebackers to be selected as All-Pro in the entire league: Fred Warner, Roquan Smith, Matt Milano, C J Mosley & Demario Davis.

This is a position of DIRE need and we have the chance to bring in a pretty healthy ALL-PRO player to fill the position. The fact that there is anyone who doesn't want to see it happen, no matter the contract price just blows my mind.
