Well, this is good on two fronts. The two year term suggests they still think Irvin can play three downs someday. And Avril is on an extended prove it deal, so he can't get to comfy with a cushy deal.

This signing and Clems injury could very well be his death knell. He probably will be asked to restructure as I'm pretty sure we will go after DT now.

Mr. Abraham....Please pick up the White courtesy phone.

Anyone getting the feeling this rivalry with SF could actually get unhealthy? Pete and Harbaugh are playing soldiers now. Avril and Vernon Davis (as well as Anthony Davis) hate each other with a passion. Like beyond football passion. Between Kam and Avril, wussy VD will have his head swiveling so much, catching a ball will be the last thing on his mind. This sure isn't the "soft" Hawks of old. PC's Hawks are about takin' no prisoners and tearin' the roof off this sucka'.

I'm so ready.

So how long will it take San Francisco to sign John Abraham now that we've got Avril? I put the over/under at about three hours.

Actually they were in talks to sign Dorsey today, so kind of the same

Peter King rated Avril as the top free agent, predicted he would be paid more than 10 Million a year.

He was also franchised last year so I believe he is taking a pay cut.

Does not look bad on paper.

Chris Clemons is about to get the Leon Washington treatment. Shop --> restructure --> release. He's owed $8.17 million this year and $9.67 million the next. He does have a decently large dead money number ($5,833,334), but Seattle would be wise to go this route. Even if they have to release Clemons, Abraham is a superior option for 2013 and could be had for less, even when factoring the dead money.

What do you mean by dead money number?

Incredible signing, only 2 years? This front office is unreal. Can't fathom why anyone wouldn't like this deal.

Dead money is the amount of money still owed to the player (through contractual guarantees) in the event that they are released. So in this case, he is owed $8.17 million this year, but only $5.83 million of it would be guaranteed if he were released. The difference is what Seattle would be saving.

John Schneider is a god among men. 2 year deal? So perfect.

Also don't think Clemon's getting moved. My instinct was that he would get cut. But the deal is so friendly I think they just keep him. Kick ass in the playoffs. Gone next year for sure.

Wow. This is awesome. King rated this guy above Paul Kruger (#2) and Mike Wallace (#5).

If we cut Clem right now, that 5M counts against the cap RIGHT NOW. That is how dead money works. You have to take the cap hit immediately.

Ahhhh it's like Christmas in March!

This was one of the guys I was hoping we would hop on as his interest has dropped off big time over the last two weeks compared to what he thought he was going to get.

Nice 2 year deal, have him until he's 28. The dude ran a 4.51 at the combine in 2008 and he's about 6'3" 260lbs... That's one big duded truckinnnnnn.

These 2 year deals are perfect. Make the guy prove and earn an extension. Or brings up his value if he chooses to test free agency again.

I just went on a Niners forum to see their reaction, and they immediately brought up the five Superbowls from the 1920's.

They are scared.

Big time.

Not quite correct. Dead money isn't still owed the player, dead money is money paid to the player, not yet counted against the cap. Signing bonuses are one of the main things used to create dead money. You sign a player to a deal, say 3 years. You give him a $6 million deal, but you give him $3 million signing bonus and $1 million each year in salary. Well, let's say you pay his bonus and salary the first year, you've paid him $4 million but only counted $2 million against the cap ($1 million salary and 1/3 of the signing bonus). That leaves $2 million from the signing bonus as Dead money if you were to let him go after that first season.

Lots of good cap info here: [urltargetblank]http://seahawks.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=64716[/urltargetblank]

By saying this you've officially put the 49er fan hall monitors of this board on red alert, they will be hijacking this thread soon.

Watching clips, Avril has played almost exclusively from the LDE position.

Don't think he's our LEO. I think he's our Bruce Irvin pass rush specialist. He'll play opposite Irvin on passing downs.

I'd love to see Clem at 3tech on passing downs.

I love this pick-up but the rap on Krueger was that he benefitted largely because of the presense of Ngata and Suggs. I hope the same can't be said for Avril who had Suh and Fairley. Please tell me why I shouldn't be concerned as we (so far) are quite sketchy at DT.
