I still don't think Lockett is a slot guy. I don't know where they have been practicing him, but I think he ends up outside.

I could see it, just because Pete and John have been looking for that really tall target doesn't mean that Lockett can't play outside. Desean Jackson and TY Hilton have already set precedent recently.

Baldwin and Lockett are our quick combo for challenging DB quickness. Graham, Matthews and Norwood are our tall combo, with McNeil and Lockett, for challenging DB height.

Mix and match.

I expect Lockett to move ahead of Baldwin at both outside and slot by mid season.

Typically you want a big WR at Split End, where the Receiver lines up on the line of scrimmage and is often in press coverage. A guy strong enough to fight through contact.

The Flanker is the other outside WR, lined up off the line of scrimmage, and he can be motioned around. He has the benefit of a built in cushion (lining up off the LOS) so we can be a smaller, quicker guy. This is where I see Lockett excelling on offense.

Every article I read it's all about Lockett and how he's doing very well in OTAs. I think I remember someone use to say that Tate always looked good in training camps during his stint before he started. If that's an indication then Lockett will do well in regular games. I'm looking forward to seeing this kid play.

Always a lot of positive vibs coming out of camp that you have to take with a grain of salt, but you can't apply Tate's situation with a broad sword. Putting it in context, Tate's accolades from OTA's and TC were always about his athletic prowess. Lockett is getting recognized for being ahead of the game with his route running and football smarts...his athleticism is already known. That considered, I have much more hope that he makes contributions beyond what Tate provided.

I'll take an average of a 20 yard run-back anytime! Love starting drives on the 40 yard line!
Re starting drives at your own 40-yard line, so would I but your starting point for determining K/O return yards is all wrong.

K/O return yards are from where the ball is caught... not from the 20-yard line.

So if a K/O returner catches the ball 5 yards deep in the end zone and he gains 20 yards on that K/O, he goes down at the 15-yard line... not so good.

How do you know he's talking about kickoffs and not punts? And do you really think you need to explain simple aspects of football to people here?

I like the Lockett a lot. If he can beat press in the NFL any where near as well as he did in college he could be a difference maker in Bevel's offense. The WRs get tons of 1-on-1 match-ups and i think Lockett will win in the slot all day long...and if he can play on the outside then every WRs not named Baldwin should be nervous.

The one thing I keep hearing is that "he always gets open". If this is true, put him on the outside and let him run his routes out there. ADB in the slot and Graham at split end and that's a lot of options to throw to.

I also keep hearing he runs great routes and is a workaholic. If this is true, maybe he works out to be a #1 WR.
