DK gets unsportsmanlike penalties: he's a selfish hothead
DK stops getting unsportsmanlike penalties: he's checked out and lost his passion for the game
Not sure what he's supposed to do. He's still out there jawing with opposing corners, he's just learned enough to stop escalating. He's also still out there doing the small things and celebrating his teammates' accomplishments.
The checked out and not being into the game has zero to do with his unsportsmanlike penalties. The fact that they have decreased has no bearing on how engaged (or not) he is. The penalties were simply one form of evidence to show how distracted and disengaged he becane in games. He got his temper under control, but the root of the issue is still there - thr fact is he has played the position with a lack of precision that points to lack of focus, lack of ability, lack of consistency and / or a level of disinterest.
The INT on the soft route he ran against the 9ers in the first game against them this year - 100% poor route.
He had a similar play against Cincy last year in a bad loss at home.
The INT against Minny... same deal. Rounded off route putting him somewhere other than where he was supposed to be.
Maybe he isnt lacking anything and he just became accustomed to playing pitch and catch with Russ, who rarely if ever threw timing routes and rather ALWAYS waited to see where a WR was going before he let the ball fly. I can entiey see how a wr who got used to never getting the ball on time and in the designed progression of a route could be caught off guard by throws that go to where he is supposed to be rather than where he himself decides to go.
Then again, maybe the fact that he can outrun and outmuscle defenders (and that he has grown accustomed to it) has made him less capable than say JSN or Tyler at reading coverage and on a choice route, actually seeing things the way the QB does.
Either way, whatever it is, the dude is making errors he shouldnt.
