That sums up the great respect that Sherm deserves. Way too much hate on him in this thread along with revisionist history to fit a negative agenda against him. He's one of the fiercest competitors we ever have had here and it's a shame Schneider refused to match the SF offer. I hope Sherm continues to play at a high level and also hope he doesn't get hurt overexerting himself Sun.
What's the revisionist history........just about every Sherman outburst and disruption was caught on camera.
- screaming at his own teammates
- yelling at his coaches
- threatening a reporter
- his "kumbaya" statement
- the numerous come to jesus meeting he had to have with Pete
I love Sherm, wish him well, and look forward to the day he can come back after his career and stand next to the rest of the LOB to take their rightful place in the Ring of Honor.
But if you think there was nothing to him being a royal pain in the ass, and that's one of the reasons he's no longer here? I don't know what team or player you were following the past 2-3 years.
Did he push the limits? Without question. Did he become a PIA at times? Yes, granted. But people are now making him out to be a Harvinesque cancer which he was not. There's a difference. By all accounts his teammates had tremendous respect for him. And his actions weren't a whole lot different from Lynch or Bennett and neither of them have encapsulated the pure hate many here seem to have for Sherm.
As to some of Sherm's antics that people are so hung up in arms about:
Sherm calling out Bevell: Honestly I commend him for having the guts to do so. The soft local media sure as hell didn't. Carroll was blind as a bat with Cabevell and maybe Sherm brought to the limelight the problems that many of the players had with Bevell. Not appropriate for a player to do so? Well sometimes you just have to take a stand.
Sherm's comments with the sports radio guy: Don't care, that guy was a jackass anyway. Sherm threatening to take away press credentials? Too far there Sherm.
Sherm yelling "you suck" after picking off Wilson in practice: Don't care. If Wilson or others are truly offended by this, it's becoming a nation of panzies.
Sherm's frustrations/yelling after broken coverages: Just that-frustration with himself and idiots like Simon not knowing what the hell they were supposed to do.
Sherm's comments post SF signing: Understand the disappointment and hurt this ultimate competitor felt after Schneider refused to match a team friendly, incentive- laden contract that SF offered. Sherm was pissed and understandably so. Other injured players were given incentive deals and he wasn’t-a player who gave it his absolute all and accomplished so much for Sea.
Sherm is highly emotional, similar to Earl, and he's still learning things in life. But for people to trash him and rewrite him into having been Percy's twin is flat wrong. He's still a very effective player and IMO we'd be much better having him than Griffin starting this year.
Bottom line: If you expect your favorite NFL players to represent the highest of values or to exhibit nothing but gratefulness to the team that cut them, you'll be consistently disappointed.
