🏈 THE ORION REPORT

Week 11 Seahawks 19, Rams 21
Sofi: LA California

OPENING TAKE

This one hurts, not because Seattle got outplayed but because Seattle outplayed themselves.
You can dominate time of possession, you can stack yardage, you can control the pace of the game.

but if you hand the ball over four times, the universe is going to smack you in the mouth.

And that’s exactly what happened.
This wasn’t about talent. This wasn’t about scheme.
This was about self inflicted wounds in a game Seattle should’ve won by 10+.

The defense showed up, the run game flashed, JSN looked like the guy we drafted and yet here we are looking at a two point loss in a game Seattle had more than a chance to outright WIN!!

THE TURNING POINT

It’s simple
Turnovers.
Four of them.

You cannot expect to win a division game on the road while spotting free possessions.
Seattle still had a chance at the end, even after all the chaos, but you don’t want to be in a position where your kicker needs to hit 61 yards to save the night.

This game wasn’t lost in the final second.
It was lost every time the ball went the other direction.

NOTABLE PLAYERS

Jaxon Smith-Njigba – WR

Seattle’s biggest consistent threat all game. Crisp routes, clutch catches, and once again showing he’s becoming the true anchor of the passing attack.
10 catches, 128 yards the bright spot.

Kenneth Walker III RB

Ran angry. Ran determined. Ran like he wanted to drag this team back into the win column himself.
18 carries, 89 yards, 2 catches for 15 yards and the only rushing TD of the night.

The Defense

Gritty. Stood tall on short fields after multiple turnovers. Held Stafford to 147 yards.
Did everything you want a Mike Macdonald defense to do except take the field less.

Sam Darnold – QB

The stat line says it all:
279 yards… but 4 interceptions.
You can’t sugarcoat it.
When he was on, the offense moved. When he wasn’t, it cost Seattle the game. It seemed apparent from the look in his eyes all night which Sam we were gonna get.

📊 STAT BOX

Category SEA LA

Total Yards. 414 256

Pass Yards. 279 147

Pass %. 65.8 53.3

Rush Yards. 89 109

Turn Overs. 4 1

T.O.P 37:49 22:11

FINAL THOUGHTS

This one will be circled in the film room.
Seattle controlled the clock, controlled the pace, controlled the field
and still walked out with an L because the ball was thrown to the wrong team four times.

But here’s the truth

This isn’t a panic loss.
This is a correctable loss.

The bones of this team look strong.
Defense is competitive every snap
JSN is ascending fast
Walker is still Walker
The scheme works
The toughness is there

Clean up the turnovers and this game flips instantly.

Seattle didn’t get bullied.
Seattle beat Seattle.

Fix that, and January is still very much in play

GO HAWKS!!

Honestly man.. gtfo with this sensible shit.

Nah I’m kidding I genuinely appreciate these and this one today is the most sensible and reasonable think to be said. Everyone’s pointing fingers but in the end it’s all correctable and coachable.

If I was to say anything is what I’ve said countless times today. The first pick wasn’t entirely on Sam. The db held Kupp preventing him from getting back to the ball. Even in the replay before commercial it was clear as obvious which led to 7pts Rams.

Of the official calls that Seattle wins. But overall the stat line you put shows Seattle is the better team.

And imo the Rams are leaving lumen later with an L, and they’re gunna get bounced from the playoffs

I agree TOs killed us. but that interior pass protection was not good today. On the pick (that should have been DPI) Sam had no time to step up and make the throw.

That first one Kupp was most definitely held

Good post. Hopefully talked some folks off the ledge once you put some perspective on it. I for one left the game feeling very optimistic moving forward. We can compete with any team in this league....
This was a measuring stick game absolutely 100%. We didn’t get blown out by a team and a quarterback that are absolutely on fire inferno, hot!! . We lost by a small margin and turned the ball over four times. We’re almost there sooner than people expected if we had gotten completely blown out of this game then there’d be a different story, but we didn’t. I look forward to our next match up with the Rams

DId it appear, it did to me, that Sam's downfield passes were rather soft and slow. I only thought this since most ever week, I marveled at how he always had a nice zip.. Oh how the hell does he hit the only raised hand in the stadium? I thought it was quite funny.

I felt he had this rattled look on his face right from the jump. And his eyes got wider throughout the game.

I don't feel too bad. There were a couple of things that need to be addressed, and they're pretty obvious.

- the interceptions. Duh. Sam has got to NEVER do that thing where he jumps and throws the ball ever again. I think he's done that before with the intent to ground the ball, or maybe he sees someone he thinks is open. Please, never again. Throw it out of bounds or take the sack. That one was the worst to me, followed by the back foot throw. Yeah, there was interference or at least holding on the play but it was an underthrown ball.

- the urgency at the end of the game. They could easily have had 15-20 more seconds....which could have moved the ball 10-15 yards closer and given myers more of a chance.

The thing that I see over and over again with Macdonald is accountability and legitimately learning lessons. He has a second year OC (first year for us), Mac is in his second year, and the team is the youngest in the league. I can accept this game as growing pains knowing we have another shot at the Lambs in a few weeks.

I will gripe a little about Walker. Yes, for the first time all season, he had two runs where he turned it up between the tackles and got what he could get -- as opposed to continuously bouncing it outside like he was still the fastest kid in Pop Warner. This is a big deal. If he ever learns to be a north-south runner, he will live up to his draft position.

But...
He had another bonehead play where he got grabbed by the foot one yard short of the line to gain, and danced around trying to ...step out of it(?) instead of falling forward for the 1st down. The play resulted in a 4 and 1.

The one time he did have a clear path to the sideline and the opportunity to pick up a couple extra yards, he instead decided cut back inside. He got an extra yard -- great! -- except we were in 2-minute offense and he traded that yard for another 20 seconds off the clock. (There were three players that did that on the penultimate drive. If they simply got out of bounds we wouldn't have had to kick a 61 yarder at end of regulation...)

Dude's a million dollar talent, just doesn't seem to understand the game...
