I'll have to skip Friday & Saturday, so we'll be back with #59 on Sunday. Linebackers! More centers!

Regarding #61 and #60, hard to go wrong with Tobeck and Unger. Both solid players.

As far as the Tony Dorsett trade goes, I was too young to really understand the implications of that other than "we could have had him as a Seahawk!" And everybody wanted his trading card back in the day. Seahawks cards were obviously at a premium with us youngsters in Eastern Washington, but the guys like Tony Dorsett were coveted as well. I'm sure I still have an old Dorsett card or two in the box.

Well yeah, I was a kid too, so there's no way I could have perspective beyond Cowboy fans constantly teasing Seahawk fans.

Didn't we some how end up with Largent because of the Dorsett trade?

That makes it pretty easy to swallow.

I don't think Dorsett would have been THE Tony Dorsett behind those early Seahawks lines. It's funny to hear young whipper snappers bitch about our lines now when they should have seen what Zorn had to put up with.

Largent came in '76, Dorsett was traded in '77 so no relationship there. You may be thinking about Ahmad Rashad whom the Seahawks traded to Minnesota about the same time they traded for Largent.

I was 20 when Dorsett refused to play for the Hawks. He did refuse/make it clear he would NOT play in Seattle and forced the trade. Hated him ever since (as a player, not a person of course.....it is sports/entertainment after all).

Can't remember where I heard it, but I was certain that Dorsett was on record as not wanting any part of Seattle. Maybe that was a factor in the trade decision.

Saw a recent video with Dorsett where he admitted that he knew he had nothing but idle threats and if the Seahawks had drafted him, he would have played here. Sort of like what Gary Wichard (?) and the Boz tried prior to the supplemental draft, where they voiced their desire not to play here because it was a small market for their brand.

Guess Dorsett and his agent bluff was too much for the Seahawks to risk. Thing is the Seahawks FO was an old Dallas FO guy. It isn't like they were total newbs, but yeah, the team were a bunch of dorks.

I went back and forth as to whether to include Ken Hutcherson on this list. He never played a regular season game for Seattle and yet for years he would be in the news, sometimes referred to "ex-Seahawk" Ken Hutcherson -- which I always thought was a bit of a half-truth. However, looking into the early news articles, I think it's very safe to assume that if he hadn't been hurt in pre-season he would have made the team and probably started. My approach to the all-time roster is I'm including guys like Hutcherson and Nate Odomes who never played, but probaby would have. He was a very talented linebacker who's career was derailed by injuries. His post-Seahawk life was spent as a well-known pastor in Seattle and on the national stage. He passed away just a few months ago at the young age of 61.

After Hutcherson, what a long list of names, some of whom you may recall and most of which you wouldn't. The most recent #59 (other than Korey Toomer whom I'm not counting) was Adrian Moten, who was handed #59 8 weeks after Aaron Curry was shipped to Oakland.

The top #59 in history was Blair Bush, the former UW Husky center. The Seahawks traded a #1 pick to Cincinatti for Bush, who started at center for most of 6 seasons, which were the peak of the Chuck Knox years. In 1989 he was given the "Plan B" treatment and signed with Green Bay and later the Rams. He spent less than half of his 14 year career in Seattle.

This sounds fair; I'm a bit surprised you didn't at least give a nod Peterson's short, but consistent role here.

I was actually going to just point out that a bunch of fans bought #59 jerseys and got screwed when he switched to #98.

I have a #59 Peterson jersey myself. If you're going to wear a #59, hey, at least it ain't Aaron Curry. I wasn't really too cognizant of the players and their numbers back then, especially linemen, so I really don't remember Blair Bush. I do have fond memories of Peterson's time here, though. Guy was a beast.

I didn't know about the history between Dorsett and the hawks. I was a kid in Texas, at the time. My dad was always a cowboys fan, and so was I up until we moved to Seattle inI 1983.

Don Hansen was a 10 year veteran with Minnesota and Atlanta when he came to Seattle in the expansion draft. Really not the kind of player you're looking to build a franchise with. He played two games then was traded to Green Bay, although I can't for the life of me find out what we got in return.

The most recent #58 was John Lutulelei, who was the star of pre-sesaon in 2013 but cut when Bruce Irvin came of suspension and was claimed by Jacksonville.

There are 3 players in history who have been very good at this number. Terry Beeson was the starting MLB in the late '70s and led the team in tackles for three straight years. He was arguable the team's best defensive player in those years but injuries wound his career down way too early, otherwise I think history would remember him much better.

Bruce Scholtz was an inside LB in 3-4 defenses of the mid-80s and another tackling machine. He also was very good in pass coverage with a big wingspan. Unfortunately, when you think of the very good teams of that era, Scholtz seems a little down the list of memorable players.

Isaiah Kacyvenski was a special teams ace who could never quite establish himself as an every down defender. However, if you ever saw the NFL Films piece on his journey at Harvard and his relationship with his dad, you couldn't help root for him.

Scholtz had the longer career and played on better teams, but Beeson is one of the better defenders in team history and my MVP.

Absolutely love this thread Hawkstorian and really appreciate all the time and effort it took to put this together and I've agreed on nearly every one of your choices for MVP but I thinbk I've got to give the slight nod to Scholtz on this one. I agree with your sentiments on Beeson and I agree that it's a close decision but the longer career plus the fact that Scholtz was on our first playoff team kinda make me lean towards him on #58.

Could be I'm just being a little nostalgic about our first playoff team that makes me give Scholtz the edge!!
I totally admit that!!! :p

Again, great work on this list. I look forward to it each day.

Beeson, for me was our first "Beast" in that I called him Terry Beaston back in the day. Soon as I saw the names on that list, I thought the MVP should be Beeson. I can understand people going for Scholtz, but it should be Beeson IMO.
