The SB was in an incredible memory.
But the day that delivered it was either Allen buying the team or Pete being hired.
We didn't just get the SB win. We had 8+ years filled with incredible football plays. As great as the SB win was, was it better than the combination of Beastquake + Kam's incredible Eagles playoff game + even the victory over the Rams last year with some of the most incredible catches we have seen?
But getting rid of Pete opens the door to potentially winning in the playoffs again. And even potentially going to another SB under a possibly great QB that might not be in a system to help him be as great as he could be.
I want to recognize the incredible contributions that Pete has made to this team. Because of him, some of the greatest memories many Seahawk fans have were forged.
But he is potentially squandering prime playing years of a top tier QB. And franchises rarely get those. When you do get them you must take advantage of it. We choose to play as if we would prefer not to.
It feels that when Pete finally leaves, he will likely do so leaving a Wilson that has little potential greatness to contribute left. And people will be so tired of watching Pete squander opportunities that they will just be glad to see him go.
Maybe he is less a boat than one of those old bands you see on the Emerald Queen signs over the highway.
Washed up and nowhere near as great as they were. People still go to their shows to remember the great times when those bands were king. Now pudgy lead singers with cracking voices play to half-filled halls. Those people don't go to see a great band anymore, they go for the memories.
Seahawk fans are probably just clinging to the memories. They know there is no future with Pete in terms of winning anything outside of the regular season. But at least you get those regular-season wins and the memories.
His best days are behind him but maybe all we can do is realize that this is it. This is the ceiling now and when he leaves we will have to start over.
The day Pete leaves we can at least start moving to get better than the ceiling Pete teams put over us. We just have to remember you lose the high floor he gives you - so it is better to do that while your QB could still potentially be great.
