Riq is good but not worth a massive payday which he will be seeking. Takes way too many plays off and is soft as charmin.

Like Sherman, Woolen started out as a WR (prior to 2020). Problem is Woolen doesn't have Sherms attitude & competitive drive and probably never will. He's a decent corner, you just don't know if his future play trends up, down or stays flat. If he wants a nice payday, he needs to push himself mentally and play with a chip on his shoulder.
Riq is playing at a high level considering he's only played CB for 4 years, but you can't shut down one side of the field on physical ability alone.
Sherman took great pride in every aspect of his game, took offense to anyone challenging his game and loved competition. Guys like that are rare.
It's the difference between being an average player and an All Pro.

If he doesn't ball out this year, I could see John letting him go to FA.

He could yield us a 4th round comp pick in 2027... but lots of stars would have to align for that to happen.
I almost guarantee the Hawks draft a CB earlier than expected to compete with Riq. With Tre Brown and Artie Burns gone, they will certainly need at least another.

Among the fans, Spoon is very comfortably the most overrated player on the team, but yeah he's better than Riq.

My point was that using Sherm as a bar of whether to pay someone means we're never to going to pay a corner.

Stingley is an awesome player - that's a good deal.

Riq's coverage metrics have remained very strong throughout the duration of his career. Objectively one of the better CBs in football in terms of covering opponents and not giving up much. The physical element and consistent effort of his game need to get a lot better, and that's why I don't think there has been much talk of an extension yet. Huge year for him coming up - he can set himself for a huge payday, establish himself as a core piece of MM's defense going forward, or be allowed to walk if he doesn't put it all together. Keep in mind that he has only played the position since 2020, so he's still squarely within his developmental arc.
