The athlete that Russell Wilson most reminds me of

A young Tiger Woods.

Determination, intensity, singular focus, coolness under pressure. A will to succeed and get better. You can just see it in Russell that he wants to be the best, just like you could see it in Tiger. They have an intensity in their eyes that few athletes have (Tom Brady is another).

They're also very similar with the way that they handle the media. Both filled with cliches. They rarely say anything too personal or outragious. Almost boring to a fault.

Add in the fact that they're both breaking barriers and hopefully clearing the way for others. Tiger of course as an african american/asian golfer and Russell as a short QB who most didnt give a chance to succeed.

Cracked me up on the Real Rob report the other day when Moffitt was on his robot inquirey and he found "Tiger Woods skin tone spray paint" in Russell's locker.

I do think Russell has the "eye of the Tiger". I think he will elevate himself and his teammates to greatness. Hopefully he doesnt end up crashing his escalade into a neighbors tree on Thanksgiving.

Well done!

Yep. Pure genius with the most obvious reply in the history of .net. Even Pehawk could have executed that one.

The first two posts in this thread are dead on the money.

One big difference: Tiger Woods, by his own admission (and supported by personal "run in" stories I've heard from people that met him) was a complete narcissist who did ill to others and thought it was okay "because he was Tiger Woods." He might be on the road to recovery after being humbled by his divorce (I thought he sounded very real in his apology a couple years ago). By contrast Wilson is basically the best person in the world. Mr. Humble. Other than that though, the similarities are pretty strong.

No, he's Fran Tarkenton, Drew Brees, Steve Young, Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali and Babe Ruth.

I don't see anything in common other than the fact that they look somewhat similar.

Woods is brash and cocky on the field (course.)

Woods is arrogant and cocky in interviews. Wilson is all nice all the time. Woods is the exact opposite in fact.

And most importantly, Woods has how many championships?

Russell Wilson is most like... Steve Largent

Small in stature, underrated athletically, incredible work ethic, burning desire to be great, attention to detail and professionalism, and all around good guy.

At the end of the 2012 season, Russell Wilson was named the recipient of the 2012 Steve Largent Award for exemplifying the spirit, dedication and integrity of the team

I have been saying that for a while. They both have that hunger in their eyes. The will to be the best. And they look really similar too, which I dont even think OP mentioned.

If it was so obvious, why didn't you pre-empt it?

(Cause you forgot, of course. :p )

Russell Wilson will break records and win more Super Bowls than any other past or present QB in NFL has ever Accomplished. His story will be of legend for future generations. For 37 long years we've waited for him. For 37 years we've been mediocre and "that team from Alaska" that could never compete with the bigger market teams because the Seahawks sucked according to the NFL and the rest of the east coast media. Those days are behind us. The legend that is Russell Wilson started this year and its only the first chapter of his greatness. The football gods have finally blessed us and blessed us 10 fold they have. In Russell Wilson's name I trust!

I did. And I quote, "Hopefully he doesnt end up driving his escalade into his neighbor's tree."

And to Tical, thats why I said a "young tiger Woods". Tiger when he was first starting out and before he won all his championships and became a pompous jerk, not today's Tiger Woods.

Tiger was the anointed one before he even got out of the gate, lavished with praise and accpeted as a guy that was going to reinvent golf. He did that granted but not so humble in the process.

Wilson has always been told to short not going to have what it takes etc and had to work his tail off to achieve the recognition he has got.

Tiger would be Andrew Luck in this season if he was given the same props as a QB in the NFL.

Joe Montana. He just find a way to win. The Dallas /SF game where he passed the ball to Dwight Clark in heavy coverage started his legend. This season I believe is the start of Wilson's.

Not because of a single game, but the many come from behind games. We had the game yesterday won except the D could not hold it but what a comeback...and against the Redskins the week before.

Yep. I know this play is in a loss, but it really exemplified Wilson's fight for me......

But anyone remember the 1st SF game, where it was 4th and 17 or something, and wilson had a streak of no complete passes? Well, on that play when it was do or die, and it seemed impossible to even complete a pass with him backed up on his own goal line, he threw complete to Obo, RIGHT AT THE MARKER. It was freaking unbelievable. Obo, of course, failed to reach the ball over the line, and a chop block was called on one of our guys (a tad ticky tacky) so it didn't count, but WOW was it amazing. It was in a losing effort, but it impressed the hell out of me. Whenever the game's on the line, Wilson for sure steps up his game. No doubt.

Wait.. Tiger makes a mistake and throws a fit and pouts like a little girl. That is nothing like Russell Steel Eyes Wilson. RW makes a mistake pulls his big boy pants on and fixes it. I am a huge Tiger fan, but IMO if Tiger had Wilson's demeaner (sp?) he would be even better.

Tiger was a jerk even before he turned pro, I don't get that from Wilson. Otherwise they have a lot in common, here is to Russell being the early 2000's version of Tiger ( success wise ) in the NFL.
