I hate this crap, same as the penalties when god forbid, a player scores a TD and wants to have a little fun.

We are talking about a league fining guys for wearing the wrong shoes or having the socks pulled down too low.

Random thoughts:

1. The NFL needs to chill out. Excessive penalties are ruining games, not just ours.
2. Refs do not belong on playing cards and should therefore stop making themselves a bigger part of games.
3. Golden Tate is an idiot. A gifted idiot, yes, but that little display was pretty bush league. He has every right to celebrate with team members, chest bump, even do a little jig, but for gawd's sake, get into the end zone first. I was almost...ALMOST...wanting him to trip and fall before scoring just to teach him a lesson.

The idea of a "spot" foul almost makes sense to me, but see items #1 and #2 above. The last think I want is for some douche ref to interpret a sideline scamper to stay in bounds as "taunting" and take away a critical touchdown at a key moment.
1: Thank you! We can all agree there are already too many penalties.

2: Word - same thing with #1 (and all the debating that goes along with these judgement calls)

3: HEhe - I think that book was written a long time ago (Top Pot, anyone?)

Uh huh. You wanted this noise. You suck.

I suck? What the hell bro? You are the one reading it, on top of that you contributed. "come on man"

Get your weak ass off the board. Get your weak ass off the board. Get your weak ass off the board.

My point is, the NFL are championing Sherm saying this kind of thing, apparently saying that isn't a 15 yard penalty, but if he'd given a "talking hand gesture" while saying it, it would be a taunting penalty.

So Beastquake's TD would've been nullified? Imagine that!
Upon (10 minutes of) futher review - the runner motioned to his crotch after the ball crossed the plane therefore it is a TOUCHDOWN and a 15 yard penalty will be enforced on the kickoff.

That is PFT making something out of nothing.

A lot of people felt that the touchdown shouldn’t have counted [but] a taunting foul is always treated as a dead-ball foul, meaning whatever happened during the play counts, and the foul is enforced on the next play, which would be the kickoff,”

Who is a lot of people? 10?100?1000? Owners? Fans?

The article simply quotes and idea from the NFL head of officiating and states his opinion that the competition should look at it.
These are grown men in a non-injury situation. If the other player needs to wipe his nose he can use one of the million Nike towels on the sideline.

This, much ado about nothing. This is pure speculation about what 1 guy said about college football having such a rule. This is NOT college football and the Competition Committee is NOT in session. I doubt they would even look at it. Never gonna happen. :snack:

Wow. What's next? You going to say something about my mother or sister? Just for that you don't get to keep your TouchDown. Penalty for taunting. Haha

I'm beginning to think you have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about. And that's fine with me.

If this truly starts happening they might lose alot of fans. Absolute immaturity of the NFL to even consider this. This isn't little kids this is grown men and if they can't handle a little taunting then they need to go back to diapers. It was funny when Tate was taunting those guys and considering what he did they had to have been saying a bunch of crap.

Egg-Zachary!

Was Tate taunting? Certainly. Was it over the top? Yep.

But getting upset about this in an official capacity is ridiculous. It would be a lot easier for me to take it seriously if the NFL was also considering banning all trash-talking. (And no, I'm not recommending that. I'm just saying it would be more consistent.)

When they start taking away sacks because of a sack dance, I'll be more inclined to pay attention to arguments that they should take away scores for Tate-style taunting.

Im on record that it was a stupid move by Golden and he deserved the flag. I also think it's ridiculous to even consider taking points off the board for it. I don't like that they do it in college ball and I sure as hell don't want them doing so in the pros.

This has happened many times and nobody has suggested a rule change. Then the Seahawks do it...WE BETTER CHANGE THE RULES! That's just disgusting.

The NFL has the rule correct right now. Don't take away a TD...that's WAY too harsh of a penalty for something so minor as taunting. Taunting isn't even a safety issue.

I'll make Tate a deal, he can celebrate all he wants if it's on game-winning catches.

The sanctimony on this topic is strong. 1 of Lynch's DUIs represents the team worse than 10 bad celebrations yet we all (myself included) still love Lynch.

This is just stupid. I cant wait for them to come up with a blowout rule. If a team has more than a 3 TD lead in the 4th quarter they will be obligated to bench all the starters! What the hell is the world coming to?

What Tate did was lame, really lame. As for the excuse "well their grown men let have their fun." If they were really grown men why do such a childish thing? Tate is lacking maturity. Top Pot? Love his play not his childish antics.

He's in his mid twenties. Man, did no one have a fun time in their twenties? I'm glad I didn't live your guys life. How boring.

That would be BS.

The taunting in no way helped him get the touchdown and in no way physically injured another player. The team earned the touchdown, so we should receive a touchdown for the play. Sure, penalize the taunting on the kickoff, but to take away the touchdown is extremely excessive.

I wish fans had more of a say on these stupid new rules the NFL is creating (before they're created).
