There were 6 games. 4 out of those 6 games were blowouts, and the average margin of victory in the wild card round was 17.2 points.
Both of the seven seeds, the 9-8 Eagles and the 9-7-1 Steelers, weren't even competitive. Which makes sense, because they are only slightly above mediocre and they were playing very good teams.
IMO, this new format is going to lead to a lot more non-competitive playoff games in the wild card round in the future. The 2 seed is almost always going to be a very good team. The 7 seed is almost always going to be a mediocre to slightly above mediocre team. That's a recipe that's usually going to produce what we saw this weekend. Some not very entertaining games.
