Stop Saying "The Seahawks are a young team." They Are Not

I’ve been a loyal Hawk fan since inception so I’m no stranger to rebuilding. The late 80’s through the mid 90’s were brutal. This team is being retooled the right way trust me.

It's easy to predict a downfall when you started posting after a SB win. From the jump the guy has been anti-Pete and calling the Hawks demise.

Fade's posts are negative because we were in the middle of a downward slide. We were failing by any measure. This is why we got rid of coaches recently. This is why OCs and DCs were switched out.

we literally won our first game, a game most predicted we'd get blown away in. 12th man seems revitalized. FO overhauling the roster and both the offensive and defensive scheme. it will take some time to get it "right". adapt or die. 2012 roster didn't get inherited or appear out of nowhere. c'mon. seems pete is no longer completely in charge of personnel (thank god) and that's a positive. we have 2 1sts, and 2 2nds in this upcoming draft. that will be fun for a change after giving up top picks for guys like jamal adams. i'd say we just had an objectively good draft, too. seeing how it all pans out is part of the fun for me, you know, as a fan?

i'd say woolen, mafe, cross, lucas, were all unknowns, and they are contributing already. nwosu was a good if not great signing. see? positives. kenny walker will show you what's up in due time. we've already found some building blocks moving forward. would you rather just keep status quo? finally moving on from wilson and all his detriments is a net positive. think wilson hasn't been declining / or will decline? and pete's probably only got 1-2 years max. he's 71. besides, new ownership will seemingly want their own guys when that time comes.

sure theres problems. tackles, penalties, geno smith as qb. we aren't a good football team at the moment. but i believe you're looking through the wrong lens. for the time being, i imagine some of you will be willingly unhappy, you know, because "reasons". ungrateful, impatient, and unwilling to see the positives in what will be a losing (record) season. but that's on you. i'm going to enjoy the games for what they are and the subsequent all-22 thereafter.

Generally right on most of it and tends to have solid football insight.

The Seahawks roster in 2013 (25.7 via pro-football-reference) was younger than the 2022 roster. Where we throwing out the young excuse for them?

In football when you're factoring in an entire roster, a 1 year AVG. age difference is huge. 4 years is cavernous. The difference between 25 & 28 is huge in football. Rebuilding teams should be 25 AVG, period. If you're well over 26, you're doing it wrong, you have too many vets, and you're trying to compete and rebuild at the same time which doesn't work.

Finally, someone looked like they read some of my follow up posts. The young guys at CB and OT are playing well, it's the coaches and the veterans who need to step up. They are not young, and that should not be the excuse. It's lazy, and laughable to read if you have any modicum of football knowledge.

All I did was post a factually correct statement. When compared against the entire league the Seahawks have one of the older rosters in the NFL (25th). And it is factually incorrect to call them young. if you're viewing this statement as a negative, then that is what is residing in you're own head, and I can't help you with that.

I subtracted six players: Al Woods, Nick Bellore, Shelby Harris, Geno Smith, Gabe Jackson, Marquise Goodwin

Now, we average one of the youngest teams in the league.

Of course, they are all starters except for Bellore but hey, we would be one of the youngest teams.

In a football context, people use the word young as a synonym for inexperienced. And Seattle had 11 starters at least one year under the NFL average age last week. So by almost every metric, they are a young and inexperienced team.

Similarly, relying solely on the average age of a roster is a silly way to make this judgment. The age of a long-snapper, kicker, punter, or QB will skew the team's average age dramatically, despite those positions having significantly longer careers than average.

lol, I have no idea what that means. he brings up valid points was all i was trying to say. I think were headed in the right direction and have young talent at the positions that needed upgrades. Still more to do but i think this D will solidify by week 8 or 9. If it doesnt? yikes, the wheels might fall off and PC will be on the hot seat. I don't see that though.
