Mafe is an edge player, which in the 3-4 is classified as an OLB. Barton is an ILB.

If you put Mafe as a "fourth lineman" in a traditional 4-3 over and remove Barton, that leaves you with 2 LBs total unless you sub in a third. You've taken away one LB by putting them as a 4-3 DE (a complete miscast for a player you also advocate for moving to MLB, which... wtf?) and have benched another.

Ironically, you're advocating for what the team literally already runs in nickel.
