Pretty odd timing.

Makes me wonder if they're going after Chip Kelly.

They are absolutely going after Chip, and I assume it's already a done deal if you're going to fire someone at this point.

Edited to add, the bizarro hire would be Jeff Fisher, which I think we would all love.

Cal is broke, so getting a coach on a little less $ that is already getting NFL $ would be attractive to them.

Clearly they must have something brewing behind the scenes. If this move was only about Dykes performance, they would have fired him 3 weeks ago. I fully believe they must have an "handshake deal" with someone to coach the team next season that will be announced shortly. It would have to be someone with a name like Kelly to help with recruiting, especially this close to letter of intent day

I would be very surprised if Chip goes to Cal. After all we heard about Chip not liking a lot of stuff college coaches have to do, and suddenly he's going to go and be the head coach at a school that's even harder to be successful at than Oregon? Not gonna happen.

The early favorite is Wilcox, and they are trying to get Lake as D.C.
