What's your preliminary, knee-jerk thoughts on the Seahawks 2019 draft?

I am not a draft guy per se so I look forward to hearing from those of you who are. How do you think we did? What grade would you give us, understanding it takes about 3 years to truly know of course, but still...Have at it...What say ye?

In my unprofessional opinion they did very well, I said A-.

Really like DK, Blair, BBK, and the DB for Oregon.

Seems like at times they outsmart themselves in the draft only to make up for it later.
For a team only going in with 5 picks and to take 11 picks and still get quality is impressive

I'd say its B+ for now in my opinion. But if these guys turn out to be stellar with a year or so in the long run, then its perhaps the best draft class.

LJ Collier
Marquise Blair
DK Metcalf
Ugochukwu Amadi
Ben Burr-Kirven

All those guys above, I can see them being the core future of the team. Again, its too early to tell.

I’m no expert! Hell I’m not even a novice! I love football and the Seahawks. I thought they executed brilliantly. My grade would be an A. Not an A+ because I don’t think anyone ever gets that. They drafted players that are Seahawk player under their regime. I think in a year or two we will be very happy about this draft. Also it was very entertaining watching them move up and down the board.

Gave it a B+. Thought they did well. Most of these guys may not make an immediate impression, except on special teams. But hey, we needed some deep work on that after the last couple of seasons. So I see an immediate improvement on ST with the speed and college experience we drafted plus some talent for the long term.

B+. They managed to turn 4 picks into 11 and used those picks on positions of need.

I too gave this Draft a B+ I am almost tempted to give it an A-, because even though we were hard pressed by Frank Clark to make the trade with the Chiefs, we were not only able to still have a 1st round pick, we had an additional 7 picks this year, and a 2nd Rounder next year, and who knows if John will stand pat with that #2 pick, or trade down for even more (not sure if John & Pete didn't package the 2020 2nd Rounder in this years draft trades). :229031_thewave:

I was personally very impressed with the Seahawks Draft. I believe they knew what they were doing and went beyond that. In the 1st Round when we traded our 1st pick I was concerned with the scenario, "here we go again trading down"... And, then when we had picks 29 and 30 and traded one of the picks again, I was still concerned but happy with the LJ Pick.. As the Draft continued I could see possibilities with the game plan and ending up with 11 picks was pretty fantastic, and the selections we good, other than adding Offensive Lineman... I still rate the draft as one of the Seahawks best! :2thumbs:

I didn't like trading next year's 6th for a 7th. I would prefer the Hawks go the other way and be savers rather than spenders.

Was a bit surprised there weren't more DL taken.

B+

They get a B for turning 5 picks into 11 and still having a first rounder, second rounder and 2 thirds.

They get the + for taking guys that have Seahawks written all over them. Speed. Toughness. Chips on the Shoulder.

Of course time will always tell if these can play at the next level but I can see the plan and I can see a few solid starters out of this draft which is always necessary.

We're still projected to have 11 picks next year, IIRC. That's not bad. ;)

Apparently they like Ufua and figured he might get snatched up in UDFA before we could sign him. Taking a flyer with a 6/7 pick is a low cost for a kid who looks like he has some skills. This way we know we have him.

Besides, I knew John couldn't let a whole round go by without at least one pick.

As for DL, I'm sure they'll be combing the FA market come May, when it won't be a hit on the comp picks. Besides, I don't think our DL is quite as bad as many around here think. Sure, losing Clark was a hit, but we have a couple of up and comers that need to step up anyway.

I wish they would have gotten a better return on trading down from 21 with the Packers. 2 4ths seemed really light, especially with what they got in trades after that.

I realize they took the best offer they had on the table, I just still found that to be disappointing. I almost would rather they had took BPA at 21 and traded 29 to the Giants and continued from there as they did. The FO seemed disappointed with the way the board fell after 21, so I am thinking Pete & John might wish for a do-over on that one as well.

That was the only negative in the draft for me.

Clark + 4 picks turned into a lot of rookie deals, most 5th round or better.

Great value. I'm super pleased. Lot's of potential depth on rookie deals with the possibility of a couple of breakouts.

When I first heard D.K. Metcalf's name mentioned several days ago pre draft I remember saying "Now that's a name you can remember."

I hope that statement proves true, and for all the right reasons.

I voted A-

I hoped they would address dline more. They did get Collier and Christmas, but was hoping for more. That being said, I can't really knock them that much because they had the Baldwin monkey wrench thrown in they had known about and been preparing for and from all indications got guys that they wanted to make sure they got to Seattle to bolster the WR corps. There are also FA dline still out there and who knows what undrafted free agents they will bring in and how many will be dline.

Depth at linebacker was spotty after the starters and with Kendrick's situation murky and Shaquem's development a concern more bodies there is a good thing. They addressed the DB situation we have going on with, presumably nickel cb and safety concerns/depth at all spots.

They even picked up an O-lineman, bonus! lol

I think for me it comes down more to a personality thing. I'm a saver by nature, not a spender. So I would rather see them on the other end of that trade. Trade today's pick for a better pick tomorrow. It seems like the Patriots do this well . . . or at least they seem to, I don't follow them too closely but they always seem to have a crap ton of picks and fairly often (it seems) they have extra picks in the first round.
