And another thing...related.
Seeing more and more kickers getting the ball to land in the landing zone because of the new touchback rule. That has the added benefit that if the returner doesn't catch the ball, they can be really unpredictable on the bounce. Footballs are designed to provide funny bounces.

I was afraid of that too, but apparently they ruled that he had possession before he rolled out of bounds. Great effort on that play!

Watching Holani on Special teams is just a reminder of why we kept him over Rodriguez

Same and the way he chucked it to try and keep the ball inbounds made it look like he didn't have possession - one review showed a good angle and he had it on the roll

Honest question: Under the old kickoff rules, if a ball goes untouched in the field of play then bounces into the end zone, is it (or was it) a live ball or a touchback?
I was under the impression that it used to be a touchback. I know that high school, and I think in college, that it would have been a touchback as soon as it lands in the end zone regardless of it bouncing in.

It was a live ball once it travelled ten yards, and until it went out of bounds. It didn’t need to be touched by the receiving team, which is different than a punt. If it went out of the end zone it was a touchback.
It used to be live. Any kickoff over 10 yards could be grabbed by either team.
That moved to touchbacks if bounces in the end zone a while back in one of the set of kickoff rules

That part didn't change. In answer to your first question it would be a live ball unless it bounces through the endzone. Now if they catch and down it in the endzone, it is a touchback and brought out to the 35. If it bounces in the landing zone - between the goal and the 20, I believe - and rolls into the endzone it is a TB and comes out to the 20.
One of the Stealer guy's mistakes was letting the ball bounce. Given how unpredictable a football can bounce, that is risky.
